Nepal Bhutan Tours - 6 Best Nepal and Bhutan Tours

Nepal and Bhutan Tours opens a window to the majestic and mystical allure of the Himalayas. Celebrated as the Himalayan kingdoms, both Nepal and Bhutan are nestled amongst the towering peaks of this range. Nepal, located in the central part of the Himalayas, boasts eight of the ten highest mountains in the world, including the tallest, Mount Everest. Bhutan, situated in the eastern Himalayas, is home to the highest unclimbed mountain, Gangkhar Puensum. These lands, where ancient traditions thrive amidst breathtaking landscapes, offer a window into a world where the sacred and the majestic converge, inviting travelers to explore their unique blend of culture, religion, and nature.

How to Plan a Nepal and Bhutan Tour?

Begin with a 3-8 day trip in Nepal. Nepal offers a variety of options to travelers. (1) For culture and history enthusiasts, Kathmandu Valley hosts 7 UNESCO World Heritage sites, including historic Durbar Square, ancient temples, and grand palaces. (2) Adventure seekers can head to Pokhara for thrilling trekking routes and stunning mountain views. (3) Wildlife enthusiasts will be drawn to Chitwan National Park for its exciting wildlife encounters and safari experiences. (4) Spiritual seekers may find Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, profoundly significant.

Next, spend 3-8 days in Bhutan. Visit the most iconic destinations in the West region (Paro, Thimphu, Punakha). Paro houses the famous Tiger's Nest Monastery and Kyichu Lhakhang. Thimphu, the capital, offers crafts, museums, and a bustling weekend market. Punakha is known for Bhutan’s most beautiful dzong. If time allows, extend your visit to the Central region (Trongsa, Bumthang). Trongsa is celebrated for the Trongsa Dzong, while Bumthang is considered the cultural heart of Bhutan.

    1. When is the best time to visit Nepal and Bhutan?
    icon

Generally, the best time to visit Nepal and Bhutan all three together spans from April to May and from September to November.

  • icon
    2. What travel documents are needed for Nepal Bhutan tour?
    icon

    For Nepal

Valid Passport: Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date from Nepal.

    Visa:

Pre-apply Online: You can apply for a Nepali visa before your travel through the official Nepal Immigration website. This process allows you to skip the long queues at the airport.

Visa on Arrival: Alternatively, you can obtain a Visa on Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, or at certain land border crossings. The process involves filling out an application form (available at kiosks at the airport or online) and paying the visa fee, which varies depending on the duration of your stay (15, 30, or 90 days).

    For Bhutan

Valid Passport: Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry.

Tour Booking: Independent travel is not allowed in Bhutan; you must book your trip through a registered Bhutanese tour operator.

    3. How can I travel between Bhutan and Nepal?
    icon

Begin your journey at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu, which is Nepal's only international airport connecting it with major cities globally. Travelers might find it easier to secure flights to Kathmandu from their home country.

After visiting Nepal, fly to Paro, Bhutan. Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines operate flights between Kathmandu and Paro, providing the most efficient way to travel between the two countries. The flight time is approximately one hour and offers stunning views of the Himalayas.

  • icon
    4. Can I travel independently in Bhutan and Nepal?
    icon

In Nepal, independent travel is very much possible and common. Travelers can freely plan their trip, choose their accommodations, and move around the country without the need for a guide or a pre-arranged tour (except in restricted areas).

Bhutan, on the other hand, has a unique approach to tourism, aimed at preserving its culture and environment through its "High Value, Low Impact" tourism policy.  All international tourists (except citizens of India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives) must travel on a pre-arranged package or guided tour arranged through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator or one of their international partners.  This policy means that independent travel in Bhutan is not allowed for most international visitors.

  • icon
    5. What currencies are used in Nepal and Bhutan?
    icon

Nepal: The Nepalese Rupee (NPR) is the local currency. USD and other major currencies can be exchanged in cities.

Bhutan: The Ngultrum (BTN) is Bhutan's currency, which is pegged to the Indian Rupee (INR). INR is also widely accepted in Bhutan.

Amazing trip in Bhutan

I just came back from Bhutan, booked through Thalia /Asia Odyssey for a 5 days’ trip to Bhutan. Went to Thimphu, Punakha and Paro.

The trip arrangement is perfect, hotel, meals, every logistics were being well taken cared. My 5 days itinerary arrangement is perfect! The trekking experience to Tiger nest is really worth! Punakha is also highly recommended, very nice valley, worth to stay for few days!

My local guide Tashi ( His nickname is Jerry, cause many people names Tashi in Bhutan ) and driver Nima are very friendly and professional.

It’s really an unforgettable and pleasant trip!
