The Hakone Travel & Sightseeing Map: Clockwise or Counter-Clockwise for Your Hakone Loop?
A classic Hakone sightseeing route will often show you the famous Hakone Loop. My personal tip? Go clockwise! Fewer people seem to take this route, meaning you can enjoy your day with fewer crowds.
This Hakone travel map shows you how to tackle the loop clockwise for an epic day trip. Here's the route:
Hakone-Yumoto Station → Hakone Tozan Bus → Hakone-machi Port → Moto-Hakone Port (Narukawa Art Museum, Hakone Peace Torii & Hakone Shrine) → Lake Ashi Cruise → Togendai Port → Hakone Ropeway to Owakudani → Sounzan Station → Hakone Tozan Cable Car → Gora Station → Hakone Tozan Railway → Hakone Open-Air Museum → Hakone Tozan Railway → Hakone-Yumoto Station

From Hakone-Yumoto Station, take the Hakone Tozan Bus (T Line) to Hakone-machi Port and Moto-Hakone Port. From there, you can visit the Narukawa Art Museum, the iconic floating torii gate, and Hakone Shrine.
Then, hop on the sightseeing pirate ship across Lake Ashi to Togendai. At Togendai, ride the Hakone Ropeway to Owakudani and Sounzan stations.
From Sounzan Station, you'll take the Hakone Tozan Cable Car to Gora Station.
Finally, ride the Hakone Tozan Railway from Gora Station to the Hakone Open-Air Museum before continuing back to Hakone-Yumoto Station.
- Pros: You'll get great morning lighting for photos of Mount Fuji from Lake Ashi!
- Cons: Owakudani might be busier in the afternoon.
