Day 1  Arrival in Xining

You guide will meet you at the Xining airport or train station, and then visit the Ta'er Temple with you.

Ta'er Temple
The Ta'er Temple is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism in China and the birthplace of the second largest master of the Buddhism, Tsongkhapa. The mural, cloth Buddhas and butter scriptures are three must-see attractions in Ta’er Temple.

Day 2  Chaka Salt Lake
Chaka Salt Lake
Chaka Salt Lake enjoys a reputation of the “Sky’s Mirror”, because it is so clear that the sky uses it to make up. Besides, tourist can admire wonderful salt statues near the lake.

You will drive to the hotel near Qinghai Lake after today’s tour.

Day 3  Qinghai Lake
Qinghai Lake
Qinghai Lake is the largest inland lake in China. This crystal blue lake and the nearby grasslands, snow-capped mountains and spectacular desert make this area a popular tourist destination. The lake is also a paradise for bird watching.

You will drive back to Xining to catch a train to Zhangye after today’s sightseeing

Day 4  Zhangye Sightseeing
Giant Buddha Temple
The Giant Buddha Temple is built to house a giant statue of Sakyamuni, the creator of Buddhism. The 34.5 meters long Sakyamuni is lying on a 1.2 meters high Buddhist altar. Tourists can also learn about Chinese fairy tales via the murals about monsters in the temple.
Pingshan Lake Valley
The maze-like valley is only 56 kilometers away from the city of Zhangye. Most rocks in this 9-kilometer long valley are red. The mountains in the valley look like buildings designed by the best architects in the world, but actually they are naturally formed.

Day 5  Danxia Landform Scenery
Binggou Danxia Area
The Binggou Danxia Area is not so developed that there is almost no paved road in the area. However, there are little tourists there. You can admire the red Danxia landform quietly.
Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park
Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park features its Danxia landform and colorful hills. The lofty Seven-Color Fairy Mountain is the core tourist area in the park. The orange part of the mountain looks like a koi fish. When the sun is shining on the mountain, it looks like the koi fish is swimming through the mountain.

You will take a car ride to Jiayuanguan after admiring the Danxia scenery in Zhangye

Day 6  Jiayuguan Great Wall
Jiayuguan Fort
Initially built in 1372 AD, Jiayuguan Pass is located in the southwest of Jiayuguan. It was the first pass and fort on the Great Wall built in Ming dynasty (1368-1644 AD). Standing on the pass, tourists can have a spectacular view of the Great Wall and desert.
Jiayuguan Great Wall Museum
Jiayuguan Great Wall Museum is situated at the north side of Jiayuanguan. To help people from home and abroad better understand Chinese ancient history, Jiayuguan Great Wall Museum is the first museum that presents the theme of the 3000 years’ Great Wall history.

You will drive to Dunhuang after today’s Great Wall tour.

Day 7  Mogao Gottoes
Mogao Grottoes
Thousands of antiques and statues of Buddha are collected in the Mogao Grottoes. Besides, tourist can admire the frescos, which cover an area of 45,000 square kilometers in these grottoes. The Mogao Grottoes were listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1987.
Mingsha Hill
The Mingsha Hill is renowned for its “Singing Sand”. When the sand on the hill is being blew by wind, the sound is like the sand is singing. Standing on the top of thill, tourists can have spectacular desert view.
Crescent Lake
The Crescent Lake looks like a crescent in a desert. That is why it is named Crescent Lake. Although the lake is surrounded by desert, it never dries up and is never buried by quicksand. There are dense reeds on the south bank of the lake.

Day 8  Dunhuang Departure

You will leave Dunhuang today. If you want to know more about the ancient Silk Road, a visit to the Dunhuang Museum is recommended. You will be transferred to the airport or train station today. Wish you liked our service and tour itinerary. Best wishes!
