Itinerary Day by Day

Day 1 Zhangye Arrival

Welcome to Zhangye, a critical transfer station on the ancient Silk Road. Your tour guide will meet you at the airport or train station. After checking in your hotel, it is recommended to have a self-exploration in the city. Please be free to ask your guide for advice.

Day 2 Danxia Landform
Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park
Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park features its Danxia landform and colorful hills. The lofty Seven-Color Fairy Mountain is the core tourist area in the park. The orange part of the mountain looks like a koi fish. When the sun is shining on the mountain, it looks like the koi fish is swimming through the mountain.
Bingou Danxia Area
The Bingou Danxia Area is not so developed that there is almost no paved road in the area. However, there are little tourists there. You can admire the red Danxia landform quietly.
Day 3 Temple Tour
Giant Buddha Temple
The Giant Buddha Temple is built to house a giant statue of Sakyamuni, the creator of Buddhism. The 34.5 meters long Sakyamuni is lying on a 1.2 meters high Buddhist altar. Tourists can also learn about Chinese fairy tales via the murals about monsters in the temple.
Matisi Temple
The Matisi Temple is not a only a Buddhist sacred place, it is also a tourist attraction, where tourists can admire local dances and eat local food, such as barbeque and barley wine. The 21 grottoes carved on a 100-meter high cliff makes the temple more mysterious.

You will take a train to Dunhuang after today’s tour.

Day 4 Dunhuang Silk Road Tour
Yumenguan Pass
Yumenguan Pass was important for the ancient Silk Road due to its location. Around 2000 years ago, all merchants, who wanted to transport commodities from China to the Western world, must go past this pass. It looks like a small castle now.
Han Great Wall Ruins
Most Great Wall sections built in the Han dynasty (202 BC–220 AD) has collapsed due to the endless wars or erosion. However, some Han Great Wall sections in Dunhuang are still 3 meters high and 1 meter across.
Mingsha Hill
The Mingsha Hill is renowned for its “Singing Sand”. When the sand on the hill is being blew by wind, the sound is like the sand is singing. Standing on the top of thill, tourists can have spectacular desert view.
Crescent Lake
The Crescent Lake looks like a crescent in a desert. That is why it is named Crescent Lake. Although the lake is surrounded by desert, it never dries up and is never buried by quicksand. There are dense reeds on the south bank of the lake.
Yadan National Geology Park
The Yadan National Geology Park consists of red gravels, rocks and soils. Lots of rocks look queer due to the erosion. Some soil terraces, with a height of over 20 meters, are the best place to shoot the breath-taking sceneries.
Day 5 Mogao Grottoes
Mogao Grottoes
Thousands of antiques and statues of Buddha are collected in the Mogao Grottoes. Besides, tourist can admire the frescos, which cover an area of 45,000 square kilometers in these grottoes. The Mogao Grottoes were listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1987.

You will be transferred to the airport  or train station after today’s tour. Hope you are satisfied with our service and like the colorful Silk Road.
