Day 1 Ulaanbaatar - Dalanzadgad (8-9 Hours’ Drive) | Gateway to the Gobi (L, D)

Your Gobi adventure begins today! On this day, we'll pick you up from your Ulaanbaatar hotel at 7:00 AM. Get ready for an exciting journey south towards the vast Gobi Desert.

Our drive to Dalanzadgad will take approximately 8-9 hours, including a comfortable stop in Mandalgovi town for lunch.

By evening, we will arrive in Dalanzadgad, the capital of Umnugovi Province. This small but important town is known as the "Gateway to the Gobi Desert." It serves as your essential base for exploring famous nearby attractions like Yol Valley, Khongor Sand Dunes, and the Flaming Cliffs.

Upon arrival, you'll check into your hotel, where you'll enjoy dinner and settle in for a restful overnight stay.

Day 2 Dalanzadgad- Bayanzag (2-3 Hours’ Drive) | Umnugovi Province Museum, The Flaming Cliffs (B, L, D)

After breakfast, we'll check out of our hotel. Our first stop is the Umnugovi Province Museum. Here, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the local culture and the unique nature of the Gobi. The museum features an impressive collection of dinosaur fossils and showcases the Gobi Desert's distinct plants and animals, including rare species like the snow leopard, ibex, and the critically endangered Gobi bear (Mazaalai).

Following our museum visit, we'll take a short drive to the famous Bayanzag (known as the Flaming Cliffs). This site is renowned worldwide for its stunning red sandstone landscapes and its importance as a dinosaur fossil discovery location. The cliffs truly live up to their name, appearing to be ablaze with color during sunrise or sunset. It was here, in the 1920s, that American explorer Roy Chapman Andrews made groundbreaking discoveries, including the world's first fossilized dinosaur eggs, along with skeletons of Protoceratops and Velociraptor.

Upon arrival at the Flaming Cliffs, we'll visit the information center to learn more through its exhibits and a documentary. You'll then have time to immerse yourself in the wilderness, hiking along designated trails to explore the unique rock formations and observe drought-resistant desert plants like the Saxaul tree.

Later in the day, we'll reach our hosts: a nomadic camel breeder family. The rest of the afternoon will be spent experiencing their traditional Gobi lifestyle, watching them care for their goats and camels.

Day 3 Bayanzag - Khongor Sand Dunes (4-5 Hours’ Drive) | Camel Riding (B, L, D)

In the morning, we set off on 4 to 5-hour drive to the magnificent Khongor Sand Dunes, traversing vast desert badlands that stretch to the distant horizons, adorned with remote mountains.

The Khongor Sand Dunes, world’s nature wonder, are one of Mongolia's largest and most spectacular sand formations, famously known as the "singing" or "booming" sands. These dunes span about 180 kilometers in length, 15-20 kilometers in width, and reach heights of 80-100 meters at their tallest points. The golden-yellow sands shimmer under the sunlight, creating a truly splendid landscape. When the sand shifts or the wind blows, the dunes emit a low, rumbling sound, giving them their unique name.

Upon reaching our ger camp, we will enjoy a satisfying lunch. Later in the afternoon, as the desert heat subsides, we will meet a local camel herder and partake in a serene one-hour camel ride. We'll then ascend the dunes to witness a mesmerizing sunset from their summit. After this memorable experience, we return to the camp for dinner and a peaceful night's rest.

Day 4 Khongor Sand dunes - Yolyn Am Gorge - Dalanzadgad (5-6 Hours’ Drive) | Yolyn Am Gorge Hike (B, L, D)

Today, we bid farewell to the majestic Khongor Sand Dunes as we journey towards the incredible Yolyn Am Gorge, nestled within the Zuun Saikhan mountain range. After a picturesque drive of 4-5 hours, we will arrive at this enchanting natural wonder, also known as Eagle Valley.

Yolyn Am is famous for its towering rock walls, which impressively rise 200-300 meters (650-980 feet) high, creating a dramatic and secluded atmosphere. In some parts, the gorge becomes incredibly narrow, allowing only one person to pass through at a time, adding to its mysterious beauty.

Upon arrival, you'll enjoy refreshing one-hour hike from the parking area. This walk will immerse you in the gorge's stunning natural beauty, offering cool, shaded paths and opportunities to spot diverse wildlife. Take time to soak in the serene atmosphere, listen to the sounds of running streams, and admire the incredible views all around you.

After our exploration of the gorge, we will transfer to a local hotel in Dalanzadgad, where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5 Dalanzadgad - Tsagaan Suvarga - Mandalgovi (5-6 Hours’ Drive) | Tsagaan Suvarga Hike (B, L, D)

After breakfast, we will depart from Dalanzadgad and begin our expedition to Tsagaan Suvarga, a truly remarkable geological formation. This site, which resembles an ancient seabed, will be our destination after about 3-4 hour drive.

"Tsagaan Suvarga" translates to "White Stupa" in Mongolian. Its name perfectly describes its appearance: these sedimentary cliffs display stunning layers of white, pink, and reddish-brown rock. From a distance, they indeed look like a giant white stupa, a traditional Buddhist monument.

These impressive cliffs reach up to 30 meters (98 feet) in height and stretch over 400 meters (1,312 feet), offering spectacular views from every angle. Their colors are dynamic, shifting throughout the day from white to vibrant pink, orange, and reddish-brown, especially captivating during sunset when they glow with golden and pink hues - a dream spot for photographers!

Upon arrival, you'll have exciting excursion to the Tsagaan Suvarga scarps. Enjoy an unforgettable hike through these colorful cliffs, and climb to the top for truly breathtaking panoramic views.

After this invigorating exploration, we will continue our journey to Mandalgovi town, where you will check into a local hotel for a comfortable overnight stay.

Today, we'll embark on a journey to the legendary granite mountains of Baga Gazaryn Chuluu, just an hour's drive this morning.

Upon arrival, we'll explore Surtiin Am. Here, you'll discover ancient stone temple ruins, venture into a fascinating 20-meter-long cave, and observe unique "ger stones" (circular stone formations often associated with nomadic dwellings).

In the afternoon, drive back to Ulaanbaatar. After a journey of about 4-5 hours, we will arrive in the city. You'll be transferred to your hotel, and the rest of the evening will be free for you to enjoy dinner at your leisure. Have a good rest!

Know Details about Mongolia Ger Camp Experience

What is Ger Camp in Mongolia?

Ger camps, featuring the traditional roundhouses of nomadic life, are the main accommodation in the countryside during the tours. The ger camps are located close to the main attractions or in scenic areas in the appropriate day’s driving distance from one another.

Mongolian camp has approximately 15-40 gers, a large ger restaurant or a house restaurant serves European and Mongolian meals. Some ger camps have game rooms and open playgrounds. Flush toilets and showers are located in separate blocks from the ger accommodations. There are several ger camps featuring attached private bathroom gers and those gers are considered ensuite.

If you wish to stay at the ensuite gers, please inform us in advance and we will gladly arrange the ensuite gers for an additional fee. The ger camp staff work hard to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay for their guests. Some of the ger camp staff speak basic English while others speak English and other languages fluently.

About the ger dwelling

Many tourists find that “The gers are a cozy and comfortable accommodation.” A ger is a traditional Mongolian felt-covered roundhouse style structure with a wooden frame; the main feature of gers is that they are collapsible and portable homes, suitable for nomadic living. The exterior and interior walls and roof of modern gers are covered with white canvas making them more comfortable and airy living spaces. A center-top window and bottom natural air conditioner design of this round shaped, circle dwelling allow the gers to always have air circulation and good energy. Therefore, gers at camps are not equipped with air conditioners, as Mongolia’s windy climate, along with the roof window and lower openings, provides effective natural ventilation.

The Ger Accommodation Interior

Each ger accommodation features 2-4 single beds with clean linens, an alter, night tables, a dining table, chairs, hangers and a charming wood burning stove. Slippers are available at the showers or provided in the gers. Visitors find that staying in a ger is an essential part of their Mongolian experience. The camp ger is lockable with a padlock as a precaution.

The Ger Camp Electricity

The gers have a single electric light bulb and some of them include a socket (220-V Asian-style plug and you may bring your adapter) to charge batteries. In other camps in remote areas, guests also have the option to charge batteries at camp restaurants and lodges. Ger camps in remote areas supply electric power by generator, available at certain times of the days. The paths are lit in the evenings, and lights are turned off at night in order to not attract flies and other insects. Therefore, bringing a flashlight/torch is recommended.

The Ger Camp Heating

The wood-burning stove warms the ger quickly but keep in mind that ger camps in the Gobi desert have a limited supply of wood. Ger camp staff should attend to the fire several times when required and on request. Guests have the option to request a small amount of wood to self-manage their ger stoves. However, for safety reasons, it is recommended not to light the fire on your own. Exta blankets are provided upon request.

Is WIFI Available at the Ger Camp

Internet or WIFI is not available at remote ger camps but 3G sim cards may be purchased in Ulaanbaatar for internet access near towns and at ger camps located within the network reception area.

Wi-Fi is available at hotels in Ulaanbaatar. In the countryside, internet access is limited. However, you can purchase a local tour SIM card with data for 3G/4G access in towns and at ger camps or attractions located within network coverage areas. This will help you stay connected both in the city and in parts of the countryside, although internet speeds may be slower.

The Ger Camp Restaurant and Meals

The Ger camp features a large central ger or lodge-style restaurants to serve Mongolian and European style meals. The meal ingredients of nomadic Mongolians have always been nature-derived and simple, which has been kept today. The ger camp meals are basic, real food, with the main ingredients being beef, mutton, chicken, pork (randomly), pastry, noodles, rice, seasonally available vegetables, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, beets, lettuce, pimentos, radishes, onions and garlic etc. There are bars at the restaurants offering both soft and alcoholic drinks.

The Ger Camp Bathroom

The ger camp bathrooms are mostly separate houses used by all guests. Many ger camps have central electricity and hot running water available 24 hours; however, some ger camps, which use solar or fire heating systems, may offer hot water only at specified times of day. Therefore, guests are asked to make use of hot water at those times.

Please note that flushing toilets and hot showers may not be available for guests traveling in spring (March, April, May) and autumn (September, October) when the cold weather disables use of the water pipes.

The bathrooms have electric lights, mirrors, basins with running water, flush toilets and other modern facilities. Guests may bring personal amenities such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and a hairdryer if needed. One kit costs around 9 USD, but it is not usually sold at the front desk of the camps. Therefore, it is recommended that clients bring their own kits suited to their skin and hair type, or purchase them from convenience stores (CU or GS25) or supermarkets in Ulaanbaatar. Most public showers at ger camps are equipped with hairdryers (however, there are no hairdryers inside the gers; a hairdryer costs around 16-30 USD). Most private showers at ger camps have a hairdryer in the bathroom.

Maximum capacity is 4 people, but normally offered for 2 people.
Share bathroom facilities.

Some en-suite facilities (gers with private bathroom facilities inside) are available for an extra charge (suitable for elderly & comfort-oriented clients).
