Chengdu moves at its own pace. A one-day walk here is not a checklist. It is a way to meet the city on foot. On this short Chengdu walking tour you pass tea houses, old temples and river parks. You hear locals play mahjong. You smell spices from a street stall. You see why Chengdu's streets invite slow time.

So, here is your dilemma: Do you want to travel back in time or leap into the future? Our "Old City" route smells of incense and jasmine tea. You'll weave through 1,000-year-old temples and watch locals play mahjong in the park. It's the Chengdu you've seen in movies. But if you head South to our "Vibrant South" route, you'll find a different beast. It's a world of massive glass malls, eco-parks, and high-tech architecture. It's the "Manhattan of the East," and it is surprisingly green.

After 15 years of showing people around Sichuan, we know the best stories aren't found on buses. They're in the narrow lanes and along the river paths. Our guides are Chengdu enthusiasts who share hidden details and help you connect with the city's spirit - whether ancient or ultra-modern.

Who is this for?

Perfect for layovers, short stays, or anyone who prefers feet over buses. Families, solo travellers, and small groups enjoy these walks. No special fitness required. Just bring a curious mind and comfy shoes.

Day 1 Route 1: Old Town Charm: Wuhou Temple | Jinli Old Stree | People's Park | Kuanzhai Alleys | Qingyang Palace | Huanhuaxi Park

Meet your guide at Wuhou Temple, dedicated to Zhuge Liang, the legendary military strategist, and Liu Bei, the emperor of the Shu Han Kingdom. Walk through the Han Zhao Lie Temple, honoring Liu Bei’s leadership, and the main hall, which celebrates Zhuge Liang’s wisdom and loyalty. Don’t miss the Sanyi Temple, where the story of "The Oath of the Peach Garden" between Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei comes to life. Stroll through the temple’s tranquil gardens, admire the Red Wall, and, if time permits, visit the Hui Mausoleum, Liu Bei’s burial site. Visit Time: About 2-3 hours.

Next go to the Jinli Old Street, a vibrant area famous for its Qing Dynasty-style architecture and lively atmosphere. Stroll through the beautifully lit streets, shop for souvenirs like Shu embroidery and lacquer products, and sample local delicacies such as Dan Dan Noodles, Bon Bon Chicken, and Sweet Potato Noodles with Pork Intestines. Witness traditional crafts like sugar painting and shadow puppet plays, or enjoy a Sichuan Opera Show. Visit Time: About 1 hour.

Continue to People's Park to enjoy a leisurely stroll through Chengdu People's Park, where you’ll experience the city's laid-back lifestyle. Watch locals square dance, practice Taiji, sing folk songs, or play chess by the lake. Visit the blind date corner, where parents seek partners for their children, and relax with a fragrant cup of jasmine green tea at the historic Heming Tea House. You can also try the famous Chengdu ear cleaning service or watch locals play mahjong for a truly authentic experience. Visit Time: About 0.5-1 hour.

Head to Qingyang Palace, one of China's oldest Taoist temples, to marvel at its red walls and ancient cypresses. End at Huanhuaxi Park, a serene green space along the river, perfect for photos and a moment of calm before wrapping up.

Meals: Optional local snack stops (guide recommends budget-friendly bites)

Day 2 Route 2: Modern South Vibes: Jiaozi Park | Jiaozi Finance Museum | Chengdu SKP | Guixi Eco Park | Tiexiangsi Water Street | Jinchenghu Park

Start your exploration at Jiaozi Park, a stunning modern waterfront oasis that offers the best vantage point for Chengdu’s soaring skyline. Here, the iconic Twin Towers serve as a dramatic backdrop to colorful art installations and manicured lawns, making it the city’s premier spot for high-fashion Instagram photography. Nestled within the park is the Jiaozi Finance Museum (entry included); step inside this architectural gem to discover the fascinating history of the "Jiaozi"—the world’s first paper currency—and witness Chengdu's evolution into a global financial powerhouse through sleek, interactive multimedia exhibits.

A short walk leads you to Chengdu SKP, a groundbreaking "sunken" luxury landmark that reimagines the shopping experience. Even if you aren't shopping, the avant-garde window displays and the "bio-energy" light installations make it a must-see for fans of futuristic design. Next, transition from steel to silk-green at Guixi Eco Park. As a key jewel in the 100-kilometer Tianfu Greenway, this sprawling park features undulating bridges, crystal-clear lakes, and vast meadows where locals fly kites and sip artisanal coffee—it’s the perfect place to witness the "Park City" lifestyle firsthand.

Continue to Tiexiangsi Water Street, where the charm of an ancient Sichuanese water town meets contemporary chic. This trendy district is lined with boutique cafes, art galleries, and zen-like waterways, offering a sophisticated atmosphere to relax. Finally, conclude your journey at Jincheng Lake Park. This serene landscape of interconnected lakes and modern bridges is so beautiful that it even caught the eye of international dignitaries—French President Emmanuel Macron famously chose the scenic lakeside paths of Jincheng Lake for his morning run during his state visit to Chengdu. Take a deep breath of the fresh air and snap a final photo of the "Chengdu Eye" Ferris wheel as it begins to glow against the evening sky.

A Perfect Short Escape for Our Family of Seven

Our family of seven from Singapore joined the 3 Days Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou High Speed Train Tour, and it was truly one of the best short trips we’ve ever taken together. The bullet train ride was fast, comfortable, and very convenient for a big group like ours. All transfers and hotel arrangements were smooth, which made traveling with children and elders completely stress-free.

Jiuzhaigou’s colorful lakes and waterfalls were even more beautiful than we imagined. Walking along the scenic paths felt peaceful and refreshing, and everyone found something to love. Our guide was patient and caring, always making sure our family was comfortable. This tour gave us unforgettable memories and was the perfect mix of nature, comfort, and family time.

A Journey That Changed the Way I See the World

This 10 Days Chengdu & Lhasa to Kathmandu Overland Tour via Qinghai-Tibet Railway was one of the most meaningful trips of my life. Traveling across such vast landscapes—from the green valleys of Sichuan to the high plateau of Tibet and finally into the Himalayas—felt like crossing into another world. The Qinghai-Tibet Railway itself was an unforgettable experience, offering breathtaking views and a smooth, comfortable ride into Lhasa.

Every detail of the journey was thoughtfully arranged, from permits to border crossings, which could have been very complicated without a professional team. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, especially in helping us adjust to the altitude. Standing in front of the Potala Palace, visiting ancient monasteries, and finally reaching Kathmandu felt like completing a once-in-a-lifetime journey. I am deeply grateful for the care and professionalism of the team. This tour is truly for travelers seeking adventure, culture, and a deeper connection to the world.

The Best Way to Spend a 10-Hour Layover in Chengdu

This winter, I had a 10-hour layover in Chengdu and decided to join this Chengdu Layover Tour: Efficient Panda & City Tours Between Flights. It was the best decision I could have made. Instead of waiting at the airport, I got to see the adorable giant pandas up close, which was a lifelong dream. Even in the cold weather, watching them play and eat bamboo was incredibly heartwarming.

The schedule was perfectly planned for a short stop, and everything ran smoothly from airport pickup to drop-off. To top it off, I enjoyed a steaming hot Chengdu hotpot before heading back to the airport—exactly what I needed on a winter day. The guide was friendly, professional, and very mindful of my flight time. This tour turned a boring layover into a memorable mini adventure. Highly recommended for anyone passing through Chengdu!
