Best Places to Visit During Chinese Spring Festival

  • Beijing: Experience imperial grandeur and folk vibrancy. Explore Temple Fair at Ditan Park, where traditional arts, snacks, and dragon-lion dances converge. Visit the Forbidden City with red lanterns adorning ancient palaces, and join Spring Festival temple fairs for an authentic taste of old Beijing.
  • Xi'an: Step into the Tang Dynasty's golden age. Wander the City Wall lined with thousands of red lanterns, immerse yourself in Datang Everbright City with Hanfu parades and light shows, and watch fireworks & folk performances at the Big Wild Goose Pagoda.
  • Henan: Discover the roots of Chinese civilization. In Kaifeng, enjoy the Song-style New Year at Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden, with traditional costumes, acrobatics, and lantern fairs. In Luoyang, witness ancient rituals and temple ceremonies that embody China's agricultural heritage.
  • Fujian: A land of divine processions and coastal traditions. In Fuzhou, behold the celestial procession where deities' statues parade the streets with fireworks and folk music. In Quanzhou, admire lantern displays, southern music, and hairpin flower customs blending Minnan culture and maritime heritage.
  • Chaoshan, Guangdong: The heart of fiery and passionate celebrations. Don't miss Yingge Dance, a bold warrior-dance with wooden clubs and drumbeats. Experience Ying Lao Ye (god parade), fire dragon dances, and ancient temple fairs that showcase the Chaoshan people's fervent beliefs and hospitality.
  • Langzhong, Sichuan: The birthplace of Chinese New Year. This ancient walled city preserves millennia-old traditions: folk parades, Sichuan opera face-changing, shadow puppetry, and lantern shows. The entire old town is a living museum of Spring Festival culture.
  • Zigong, Sichuan: The Lantern Capital of the World. Famous for its International Dinosaur Lantern Festival, the city dazzles with thousands of creative, illuminated installations. The night sky glows with mythical creatures, traditional motifs, and modern designs—an unmissable visual feast.

Zhangjiajie Group Tour July 29-1st Aug 2025
This was a group trip organised by Asia Odyssey Travel and I had booked with them for the 29th July tour. Overall it was a fantastic experience starting from the rail station pick up, the hotel stays, the food and the guide during each day. Ms. Freya as a guide was nice and a little sweet girl. Shall get better with experience. My best wishes to her. Ms. Nia, the tour coordinator cooperated with me very well since my booking and everything was smooth. I reccomend Asia Odyssey for future travels. Best wishes.

18-day China private tour
We organized an 18-day tour across China with Asia Odyssey Travel, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the very beginning, we were supported by Steven, who speaks excellent English and showed great patience and flexibility. He helped us design a fully customized itinerary based on our preferences, adjusting the original proposals to suit our needs. Steven also stayed in touch throughout the trip to make sure everything went smoothly—and we even had the pleasure of meeting him in person during our stop in Yangshuo!
Our journey included many destinations: Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Zhangjiajie, Furong, Fenghuang, Guilin, Yangshuo, and Shanghai. We took two domestic flights and three trains, including two long-distance rides. In each location, we were met by a local English-speaking guide and a driver. We were truly impressed by the professionalism and kindness of every guide we had: Vincent in Beijing, Tina in Chengdu, Christine in Chongqing, Rachel in Zhangjiajie – Furong and Fenghuang, and Helen in Guilin. Each of them was knowledgeable, helpful, and a joy to spend time with.
Although we’re not usually the type to travel with organized tours, we wanted a good balance between guided experiences and time on our own. Asia Odyssey Travel was incredibly accommodating, allowing us the flexibility to explore independently while still taking care of all the logistics—like picking us up from airports or train stations and ensuring someone accompanied us to our hotels, which was especially valuable in a country where English is not widely spoken.
Thanks to Steven’s advice and the guidance of the local experts, we were able to make the most of every stop—visiting key sights at the right times and avoiding crowds whenever possible. We always felt supported, cared for, and in good hands.
We wholeheartedly recommend traveling with Asia Odyssey Travel, and if we return to the region in the future, we’ll definitely choose them again!
