Harbin hosts the world-famous Ice and Snow Festival, featuring glowing ice castles harvested from the Songhua River. Beyond the frozen wonderland, Harbin’s unique Russian and European heritage earned it the title "Moscow of the East." From skating on the frozen river to exploring Orthodox architecture and tasting Russian-influenced cuisine, the city offers a captivating fusion of cultures.
Arrival Ideas:
Harbin Taiping International Airport is the primary gateway, offering extensive domestic flights to cities like Beijing and Shanghai, plus international routes to Japan, South Korea, etc. Harbin is also well-linked by high-speed rail; for example, the journey from Beijing takes just 6 to 8 hours, making the city easily accessible by air or train.
Free Time Ideas:
During your free time, visit Zhaolin Park (兆麟公园), the birthplace of Harbin’s ice festival. Cherished by locals “老哈”, this park hosts a charming Ice Lantern Show. Though smaller than Ice and Snow World, it offers a nostalgic and beautiful "appetizer" to the city’s grand winter celebrations.

After breakfast, visit the Siberian Tiger Park (东北虎林园), the world's largest sanctuary for nearly 1,000 purebred tigers. Board a cage-style sightseeing vehicle for a thrilling tour through their natural habitat. Capture stunning photos of them in action and enjoy the unique opportunity to feed the tigers yourself, witnessing their incredible power and wild beauty from a safe, close-up perspective.
Next, Visit Sun Island (太阳岛), home to the world-renowned Snow Sculpture Art Expo. Wander through a snowy open-air gallery featuring massive, intricate works by global artists. Beyond the visual artistry, the island offers a variety of playful ice and snow activities. If you're interested in polar animals, you might want to consider visiting Harbin Polarland (Optional).
Next, head to the Ice and Snow World (冰雪大世界), the festival’s most dazzling highlight. This crystal-clear kingdom features towering ice castles and bridges that glow with thousands of colorful lights after sunset. Enjoy unique experiences like dining in an ice restaurant, sliding down the super ice slide, or riding the Snowflake Ferris Wheel.
Travel Tips:
Return to your hotel in Harbin City.

Today, we’ll set off on a 5–6 hour scenic drive to the famous China Snow Town (中国雪乡). Officially known as Shuangfeng Forest Farm (大海林局双峰林场), this winter wonderland is located approximately 300 kilometers from Harbin.
China Snow Town is a dreamlike fairy tale featuring China's deepest snowfall (2 meters per year). It is a breathtaking winter wonderland of snow-covered mountains and streets. Wander down Snowy Street (雪韵大街) to soak in the local culture and vibrant markets. Don’t miss the chance to try traditional Northeast treats, including frozen persimmons and sticky bean buns (粘豆包), amidst this captivating ice and snow market.
Optional Activities:
For a thrill, try a dog or horse-drawn sled ride through the snowy woods. You can also experience the magic of "ice splashing" by tossing hot water into the freezing air, or slide down slopes on a snow tube to relive a local childhood favorite!
At night, Snow Town glows under vibrant red lanterns. From the observation deck, the village sparkles like a fairy tale, with "jade-white" snow shimmering in the soft light.
Stay overnight in China Snow Town.
Tips:

Today, experience the sunrise at Yangcao Mountain (羊草山日出), the highest peak near Snow Town. Watch the snowy wilderness turn golden from the 1,350-meter observation deck. Look out for stunning rime ice on the trees! To reach the top, choose a free, invigorating hike or a 4WD vehicle for 280 RMB (Optional).
Alternatively, head to the Bangchui Mountain observation deck (棒槌山观景台). It offers a sweeping view of Snow Town’s scattered cottages and rising hearth smoke.
Then, wander through Dream Home (梦幻家园), a magical cluster of cottages famous for their "snow mushroom" roofs. The deep, heavy snow creates a scene so soft and plump it resembles a village made of cream cakes or giant snow mushrooms.
In the afternoon, we bid farewell to this snowy wonderland and begin the 5–6 hour drive back to Harbin.

After breakfast, head to Snowman Pier at the Bund (外滩雪人码头) to witness Harbin’s famous winter swimming. It’s a thrilling sight: enthusiasts leaping into frozen waters with incredible agility and grace. The contrast between the biting cold and the swimmers' fluid movements is breathtaking.
Then, visit Saint Sophia Cathedral (圣·索菲亚教堂), famous for its intricate architecture and golden crosses. As a symbol of Harbin’s diverse cultural blend, it houses the Architecture Art Museum. In winter, the cathedral becomes an enchanting scene straight from a storybook.
Later, stroll Zhongyang Pedestrian Street (中央大街), a 1,450-meter "outdoor museum" of Baroque and Renaissance architecture. Explore diverse shops and enjoy street performances in a vibrant atmosphere. Don’t miss local icons like Harbin Sausages (哈尔滨香肠), Maidel Ice Cream (马迭尔冰棍)
At the end of Central Street, you'll find Stalin Park (斯大林公园) right along the Songhua River. It’s a local favorite where people head down to the frozen riverbank to enjoy the winter weather. You can join the crowds on the ice for some skating, sledding, or even a quick snowmobile ride.
Afterward, discover Harbin’s origins in Lao Daowai (老道外), home to stunning Chinese Baroque architecture. These century-old buildings blend European exteriors with Chinese interiors. Wander through traditional streets filled with artisanal crafts and local brands that have flourished for generations.
As your 5 Days Harbin and China Snow Town Tour concludes, your guide will escort you to the airport or train station.
Extension Ideas: Extend your China Winter Tour to Yabuli, Changbai Mountain, or Northeast China cities like Jilin, Changchun, and Dalian.

Best Time: Late December to late February, during the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival, depending on the weather.
Booking Advice: The Ice and Snow Festival attracts a global audience, so hotels and flights fill up quickly. We highly recommend booking accommodations and transportation at least 1-2 months in advance.
Harbin's winters are extremely cold, with average temperatures ranging from -25°C to 3°C (-13°F to 37.4°F).
Clothing Essentials: It's essential to dress in layers, including thermal underwear, sweaters, and a heavy down coat. Accessories like hats, gloves, scarves, and insulated boots are crucial to protect against frostbite.
Footwear & Face Protection: Wear insulated, waterproof boots with good grip to prevent slipping on ice. A thick scarf or neck gaiter will protect your face and neck. Ear muffs are optional but helpful for added warmth.
1. Protect Your Electronics: Cold weather can drain battery life quickly. Keep cameras and phones close to your body to maintain warmth, and bring spare batteries or a portable charger.
2. Vision Tips: If you wear glasses, consider switching to contact lenses, as your warm breath can fog up lenses and obstruct vision.
3. Skincare: Use a rich moisturizer and lip balm to prevent dryness and cracking. Sunscreen is also essential, as snow reflects UV rays.
