Day 1 Harbin Arrival | Airport Pick-up and Hotel Check-in

Nǐ hǎo! Welcome to Harbin. Our team will be waiting at the airport or station exit to greet you. We’ll escort you downtown and handle your hotel check-in.

Harbin, the "Ice City," transforms annually into a surreal wonderland of towering sculptures and frozen playgrounds on the Songhua River. Renowned for its "Chinese Baroque" and Russian architecture, this "Little Paris of the East" blends European charm with local traditions.

From skating on the river to tasting Russian-style breads and sausages, Harbin hosts the renowned Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival, one of the largest and most visually stunning winter events in the world.

Get to Harbin: Harbin Taiping International Airport is the primary gateway, offering frequent domestic flights to Beijing, Shanghai,Guangzhou, Xi'an, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Shenzhen, plus international routes to Japan and Korea. With travel times from Beijing averaging between 6 and 8 hours, Harbin is also a major hub in China's high-speed rail network.

After breakfast, we’ll head to the Siberian Tiger Park (东北虎林园), the world’s largest sanctuary for these majestic cats. You’ll board a secure sightseeing vehicle to watch nearly 1,000 tigers roaming freely in a natural habitat. It’s an incredible rush to see them sprint past or even feed them yourself.

i Note
Tiger feeding is an optional activity at your own expense. The park also showcases diverse felines, including lions, ligers, and leopards.

Next, we’ll head to Sun Island (太阳岛) for the famous International Snow Sculpture Art Expo. It’s like walking through a giant outdoor gallery where artists turn snow into towering castles and incredibly lifelike animals. You’ll be amazed by the tiny details, like facial expressions and textures.

Optional Activity: For polar animal lovers, you can visit Harbin Polarland amusement park.

Next, we’ll visit Ice and Snow World (冰雪大世界), the festival’s breathtaking centerpiece. Today, we embark on a scenic two-hour drive (90km) to China Snow Town (中国雪乡), also known as Shuangfeng Forest Farm (大海林局双峰林场).

While Harbin showcases sculpted art, Snow Town is a natural fairy tale. Known for the heaviest snowfall in China, it boasts a staggering annual depth of two meters.

Step into Snow Town, a picturesque wonderland where everything is blanketed in white. Wander down Snowy Street (雪韵大街) to experience local folk customs and vibrant markets. Explore charming shops filled with handmade crafts and iconic Northeast treats like frozen pears, sticky bean buns (粘豆包), and candied hawthorns (冰糖葫芦).

From the observation deck, enjoy a panoramic view of the entire village bathed in the soft light of traditional red lanterns.

Alternatively, head to the Bāngchuí Mountain observation deck (棒槌山观景台) to capture the tranquil charm of Snow Town’s scattered houses and rising hearth smoke from above.

Next, explore the Dream Home (梦幻家园), where rows of cottages sit nestled under thick blankets of snow. Walking through this area feels like a dream; the rounded roofs look exactly like plump snow mushrooms or oversized cream cakes. It is a truly charming spot where every snow-dusted path and whimsical house draws you deeper into a winter world.

This bustling hub is perfect for shopping and tasting local icons like Harbin Sausages (哈尔滨香肠), Maidel Ice Cream (马迭尔冰棍). Expert Advice and Ideas for Your Harbin Trip

Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time to visit Harbin and how to book?+

Best Time: Late December to late February, during the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival, depending on the weather.

Booking Advice: The Ice and Snow Festival attracts a global audience, so hotels and flights fill up quickly. We highly recommend booking accommodations and transportation at least 1-2 months in advance.

What should I wear for Harbin's extreme winter weather?+

Harbin's winters are extremely cold, with average temperatures ranging from -25°C to 3°C (-13°F to 37.4°F).

Clothing Essentials: It's essential to dress in layers, including thermal underwear, sweaters, and a heavy down coat. Accessories like hats, gloves, scarves, and insulated boots are crucial to protect against frostbite.

Footwear & Face Protection: Wear insulated, waterproof boots with good grip to prevent slipping on ice. A thick scarf or neck gaiter will protect your face and neck. Ear muffs are optional but helpful for added warmth.

Other essential travel tips (Electronics, Vision & Skincare)+

1. Protect Your Electronics: Cold weather can drain battery life quickly. Keep cameras and phones close to your body to maintain warmth, and bring spare batteries or a portable charger.

2. Vision Tips: If you wear glasses, consider switching to contact lenses, as your warm breath can fog up lenses and obstruct vision.

3. Skincare: Use a rich moisturizer and lip balm to prevent dryness and cracking. Sunscreen is also essential, as snow reflects UV rays.

Harbin Tours offer a diverse range of accommodations, from luxury 5-star hotels to comfortable 4-star options and basic 3-star lodgings.
