After breakfast, we'll journey to the Sepilok area, ready to meet Borneo's most beloved residents!
First, visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Witness the heartwarming sight of rescued orangutans, our closest primate relatives, swinging through the trees and being fed by their carers. An added treat is a visit to the adjacent Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Center, marvel at the adorable antics of the world's smallest bear species, frolicking in their naturalistic enclosures.
After lunch, make your way to the Sandakan Jetty and board a speedboat for a journey up the Kinabatangan River to the Sukau Rainforest Lodge. The Kinabatangan River is Malaysia's second-longest river in Sabah, stretching approximately 560 kilometers. It is also one of the most accessible areas in Borneo for wildlife observation.
Once you've settled into the lodge, head back to the Kinabatangan River for your afternoon cruise. As the sun begins its descent, painting the river in golden hues, wildlife starts to become active. Our boat will glide silently along the water, eyes scanning the dense foliage for proboscis monkeys settling in the tree, playful orangutans, and if luck is on our side, even rare Bornean pygmy elephants! And if you don't see the famous Bornean Pygmy Elephants today, you'll have another two chances to search for them tomorrow.
Tips: The weather in the region can be humid and unpredictable, especially during the rainy season, so pack lightweight, breathable clothing, a rain jacket, and insect repellent. Comfortable shoes are necessary for nature walks and river cruises.
