Day 1 Marrakech - Essaouira - Marrakech | Argan Tree Forests, UNESCO Medina, Mellah, Kasbah, Fishing Port, Essaouira beach or Place Moulay Elhassan

Your private driver will pick you up from your hotel in Marrakech at 8:00 AM. The drive from Marrakech to Essaouira takes about 3 hours (177 KM).

As we leave the vibrant energy of the city behind, we’ll head west across the Houaz Plains toward the village of Sidi Lmokhtar. We’ll pass through the unique landscape of Argan tree forests. Keep your camera ready - you might just spot the famous local goats climbing the trees to snack on Argan nuts, a truly rare and unforgettable sight.

We’ll make a stop at a local Argan oil cooperative to see how this "liquid gold" is made. You’ll learn about the traditional extraction methods that have made this oil famous for its culinary and cosmetic benefits.

iOptional Experience::

If you enjoy fine wine, we can detour to the Val d’Argan vineyard. Established by a French winemaker, it’s a beautiful spot to enjoy a glass of locally produced wine before we reach the coast.

Afternoon: Exploring Essaouira

Upon arrival, you’ll have a walking tour of this historic port city. You’ll wander through the winding alleys of the ancient Medina—a UNESCO World Heritage site—where the souks and artisan workshops offer a more relaxed pace than Marrakech. We’ll explore the Mellah (the old Jewish quarter) and climb the historic Kasbah, a military bastion that offers sweeping, panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Finally, we’ll head down to the bustling fishermen’s port, where the iconic blue boats line the shore and the catch of the day is brought in fresh.

Late Afternoon: Unwind by the Sea

After your tour, the rest of the day is yours to soak in Essaouira’s laid-back charm. You might choose to stroll along the Essaouira beach or find a seat at the Place Moulay Elhassan. It’s the perfect spot to sip a fresh mint tea or coffee while listening to the rhythmic, soulful sounds of traditional Gnawa music drifting through the square.

iOptional Beach Experience::

You may choose to go camel or horse riding on the beach. Please let us know if you would like to include this in your day.

After the tour, be escorted back to Marrakech around 6:00 PM. Drop you at your hotel in Marrakech.

Service ends here in Marrakech, Morocco. For your next trip, consider 7-to-10-day immersion exploring Marrakech, Fez, Rabat, and the unforgettable Sahara Desert at Merzouga. Asia Odyssey Travel is always ready to help you plan your next custom getaway. We look forward to welcoming you back for your next adventure!

Expert Advice and FAQs for Taking a Morocco Tour

FAQ Icon
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do We Need a Morocco Visa? How Is the Visa Policy?+

Morocco has a relatively traveler-friendly visa policy for many international visitors. Citizens from numerous countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, and most European countries, can enter Morocco visa-free for stays of up to 90 days for tourism purposes.

However, visa requirements vary depending on nationality. Travelers should always check the latest regulations or consulate before departure, as policies may change.

For guests booking with Asia Odyssey Travel, our travel consultants can provide guidance on visa preparation and entry requirements based on your nationality.

2. What is the best time to visit Morocco?+

Most travelers prefer spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) because temperatures are comfortable for cities, the desert, and mountain areas.

Spring (March to May): This is one of the most popular times to visit Morocco. The weather is pleasant, flowers bloom across valleys and gardens, and temperatures are comfortable for sightseeing, desert tours, and hiking.

Autumn (September to November): Autumn offers warm sunny days and cooler evenings, especially ideal for Sahara Desert trips and imperial city tours.

3. How Long Should I Stay? What Is the Best Trip for First-Timers to Morocco?+

For first-time visitors, a 7–10 day Morocco itinerary is considered the ideal duration. This allows travelers to experience Morocco’s imperial cities, desert landscapes, local culture, and scenic mountain regions without feeling rushed.

4. What Are the Must-Visit Places in Morocco? How Can I Cover Them in My Trip?+
  • Marrakech: Known for lively souks, palaces, gardens, and traditional Moroccan culture.
  • Fes: Home to one of the world’s oldest medinas and famous for traditional craftsmanship.
  • Chefchaouen: The famous blue-painted mountain town ideal for photography and relaxation.
  • Sahara Desert: Experience camel rides, sunset dunes, and overnight luxury desert camps.
  • Atlas Mountains: Perfect for scenic drives, Berber villages, and trekking.
  • Essaouira: A charming coastal city known for seafood, beaches, and laid-back atmosphere.

How to Cover Them Efficiently

A well-designed itinerary typically follows a north-to-south route:

Casablanca → Chefchaouen → Fes → Sahara Desert → Marrakech → Essaouira

This route minimizes backtracking and offers a gradual transition from imperial cities to desert landscapes and coastal relaxation.

5. Which City Is the Best Starting Point in Morocco? Marrakech or Casablanca?+
City Recommended For
Casablanca Comprehensive Morocco tours and first-time travelers
Marrakech Shorter cultural and desert-focused trips

AOT Expert Suggests:

  • Choose Casablanca if: You are planning 7-to-12-day complete tour of Morocco, want a smooth geographic loop without backtracking, and prefer a modern city to ease into the country's driving and culture.
  • Choose Marrakech if: Your vacation time is short (under 7 days), you are arriving on a short flight from Europe, or you want to focus exclusively on the desert, mountains, and southern oasis valleys.
6. Will There Be a Language Barrier During the Tour? What Languages Does Asia Odyssey Travel Provide?+

Yes, Sahara Desert tours can be suitable for both children and seniors when properly planned.

For Families with Children

Children often enjoy: Camel riding | Sandboarding | Desert sunsets | Stargazing experiences | Campfire music performances

Families with younger children may prefer: Shorter driving days | Comfortable private vehicles | Luxury desert camps with private bathrooms

For Seniors

Many seniors travel comfortably to the Sahara Desert with proper pacing. However, travelers should note:

  • Some desert journeys involve long driving distances

Where to Stay: Handpicked Hotels/Riads/Camps for Your Morocco Tour

When traveling in Morocco, accommodations change naturally from one destination to another, giving travelers different local experiences throughout the journey.

In Casablanca and Marrakech, most travelers prefer staying in the city center, close to major attractions, restaurants, and shopping areas. These cities offer modern hotels, international brands, and stylish boutique stays with convenient access for sightseeing.

In Morocco’s imperial cities such as Fes, staying in the Old Medina is highly recommended. Traditional riads, built around peaceful courtyards, offer a more authentic Moroccan atmosphere and easy access to local markets and historical sites.

When reaching Merzouga, the experience becomes completely different with an unforgettable Sahara Desert camp stay. Travelers can enjoy camel rides, sunset views, and overnight stays under the stars.

Morocco offers luxury, comfortable, and budget accommodation options, including standard camps and luxury desert tents equipped with essential amenities such as private bathrooms, air-conditioning, and hot water to ensure a pleasant stay.

Simply tell us your travel style, comfort level, and hotel preferences, and our professional travel experts will help arrange the most suitable stays for your Morocco Tour.
