Day 1 Arrival in Shanghai | Airport Pick-up and Hotel Check-in

Nihao! Welcome to Shanghai.

Shanghai is China's most international city, where Eastern and Western cultures have blended for centuries. Your guide and driver will meet you at the airport or train station and take you to your hotel in downtown Shanghai. The rest of the day is yours to rest after your flight or explore the neighborhood on your own.

Arrival Ideas:

Shanghai is easy to reach by air or high-speed train. The city has two international airports—Pudong (PVG) and Hongqiao (SHA) —with flights from most major cities in China and around the world.

By train, high-speed rail connects Shanghai to Beijing (4.5-6 hours), Xi'an (6-7.5 hours), Huangshan (2.5-3 hours), Guangzhou (7-8.5 hours), Suzhou (30 minutes), Hangzhou (45 minutes), and Wuhan (3.5-4.5 hours).

Day 2 Shanghai City Tour | Yu Garden & Bazaar, The Bund, Shanghai Tower, Xintiandi

Today you'll explore the blend of East and West that gives Shanghai its nickname, the "Paris of the East." From classical gardens to modern skyscrapers, you'll see it all.

Morning: Yu Garden & Yuyuan Bazaar

Start at Yu Garden, the most celebrated classical Chinese garden in Shanghai. Hidden in the bustling old city, this garden offers a peaceful escape. Built in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty, it's over 460 years old. Pan Yunduan created it for his father to enjoy retirement.

Walk along winding paths past ponds, plants, and rockeries. Notice the intricate brick carvings, stone carvings, and clay sculptures throughout the garden. On your way in, cross the Jiuqu Bridge, also called the Nine-Bend Bridge. According to Chinese feng shui, evil spirits can only travel in straight lines, so the zigzag path keeps them away. Stop at the Huxin Pavilion, a Qing Dynasty teahouse in the middle of the pond.

Outside the garden, explore Yuyuan Bazaar, a lively old street filled with shops and food stalls. This is the place to try Shanghai's famous snacks: xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) at Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant, shengjianbao (pan-fried pork buns), guantangbao (soup dumplings with a straw), and Shanghai wonton soup. You can also shop for traditional handicrafts and souvenirs.

Midday: Xintiandi & Shikumen Architecture

Next, visit Xintiandi, a trendy district near the French Concession. The area beautifully blends restored Shikumen architecture - traditional stone-gate houses - with modern cafes, restaurants, and boutiques.

Afternoon: The Bund & Huangpu Ferry

Stroll along the Bund, Shanghai's most famous waterfront. On one side, you'll see 52 colonial-era buildings in various international styles - it's often called an "Exhibition of International Buildings." On the other side, across the Huangpu River, rises the futuristic skyline of Pudong.

This area was once the "Wall Street of the Far East," where foreign banks and trading companies gathered. Today, it's the best spot to view the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and the three skyscrapers of Lujiazui.

Board a public ferry at Jinling East Road to cross the Huangpu River. In just a few minutes, you'll travel from old Shanghai to the modern financial district.

Shanghai Tower Observatory

Walk to Shanghai Tower, China's tallest building. Its design twists 120 degrees from base to peak. Take the world's fastest elevators (64 km/h) to the "Top of Shanghai Observatory" on the 118th floor, 546 meters above ground.

From here, enjoy 360-degree panoramic views of Shanghai. Look down on the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Jin Mao Tower (a modern take on a traditional pagoda), and the Shanghai World Financial Center. On a clear day, you can spot the Bund and Nanjing Road on the other side of the river.

iOptional Evening Activity

If you have energy, consider the Shanghai Acrobatic Show (7:30-9:00 PM). The renowned Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe performs a stunning blend of acrobatics, dance, comedy, and magic. It's a hit with visitors of all ages and a great way to experience Shanghai's performing arts.

These "Nong Tang" (alleyway) homes have been preserved and transformed into a lively entertainment complex. Visit the Shikumen Open House Museum to see how middle-class Shanghai families lived in the 1920s and 1930s. The house includes a courtyard, pavilion rooms, kitchen, and more - it feels like stepping into someone's home.

Day 3 Shanghai Disneyland Park for One Day

After breakfast, you and your family will head to Shanghai Disneyland Park, located about 34 kilometers southeast of downtown. You can choose our private transfer service or take a taxi, metro, or bus to the park.

Shanghai Disneyland is the largest Disney park in Asia, a magical place divided into seven themed areas. These include Fantasyland, Adventure Isle, Tomorrowland, Treasure Cove, and Mickey Avenue. For the best experience, explore the park in a counterclockwise direction.

Must-See Attractions for Families

Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure takes you on a high-tech boat ride through the world of pirates. With stunning special effects and immersive storytelling, you'll encounter swashbuckling pirates, mermaids, and an epic battle for treasure.

TRON Lightcycle Power Run combines high-speed thrills with cutting-edge technology. Inspired by the TRON films, you'll board futuristic lightcycles and race through a neon-lit digital landscape with twists, turns, and breathtaking speeds.

Peter Pan's Flight is a gentle classic. Step aboard a magical pirate ship and join Peter Pan on a flight over London and into the enchanting world of Neverland, with charming scenes and whimsical music.

Soaring Over the Horizon gives you the sensation of flying. This immersive attraction uses innovative technology to simulate a hang gliding journey over some of the world's most iconic landmarks and natural wonders.

iTips for a Great Disney Day:
  1. Download the official Shanghai Disneyland app before you go. It shows real-time wait times, show schedules, and interactive maps to help you navigate efficiently.
  2. Arrive early to beat the crowds and get a head start on popular rides. Throughout the day, catch live shows like Mickey's Storybook Adventure and Captain Jack's Stunt Spectacular.
  3. For meals, you'll find plenty of options from quick-service spots to table-service restaurants. Try some of the Disney-themed snacks and international dishes.
  4. End your day with "Ignite the Dream - A Nighttime Spectacular," the fireworks show over Enchanted Storybook Castle. Find a good viewing spot in front of the castle and enjoy the magical finale.
  5. Dress comfortably for a long day of walking and standing. Check the weather forecast and bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses as needed.

After the park closes, your driver will take you back to your hotel in downtown Shanghai.

Day 4 Shanghai Departure | Zhujiajiao Water Town

After breakfast, meet your guide and drive about 48 kilometers to Zhujiajiao Water Town. With over 1,700 years of history, this village is often called "Shanghai's Venice" and offers a quiet change of pace from the city center.

Your guide will lead you through winding lanes lined with Ming and Qing Dynasty architecture. Explore North Street, the best-preserved ancient street in the area, where local shops sell traditional handicrafts and snacks.

The town is built around a network of canals connected by 36 stone bridges. Be sure to see Fangsheng Bridge, the largest stone arch bridge in Shanghai, which features intricate carvings and a long history of connecting the local community.

Visit the Qing Dynasty Post Office, one of the oldest in the region, and Kezhi Garden, which features traditional pavilions and rockeries. You can also explore the Yuanjin Buddhist Temple and the Town God's Temple to see local religious traditions.

For a unique view, take a rowing boat along the canals. You will glide under historic bridges and past white-walled houses with black-tiled roofs. Before leaving, try a steamed bun from a street vendor or enjoy tea in a centuries-old teahouse.

After the tour, we will transfer you to the airport or train station for your next destination. Thank you for traveling with Asia Odyssey Travel - we look forward to seeing you again for your next trip to Asia.
