Taipei (2 Days)
Taipei 101 (Exterior View), Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Dadaocheng & Dihua Street, National Palace Museum, Shilin Night Market, Taiwanese-style Breakfast, Local Food DIY, Yongkang Street, Longshan Temple.
Welcome to Taipei to savor authentic food and travel best of Taiwan. Your guide and driver will meet you at airport and escort you to hotel for check-in. Journey begins in city highlights!
First, head to the foot of Taipei 101 to admire its exterior. At 508 meters high, Taipei 101 is the most iconic landmark in Taipei, holding the title of "world's tallest building" from 2004 to 2010. Its bamboo-stalk design blesses continuous growth and prosperity in Chinese culture.
Second, visit Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (中正纪念堂), one of Taipei's iconic landmarks. Completed in 1980, it was built to commemorate the first president of the Republic of China. The memorial hall features white walls and a roof adorned with sapphire blue glazed tiles.
First floor displays Japan's instrument of surrender from World War II and life of Chiang Kai-shek. Go ahead to outer plaza. You’ll get a good shot to visit the Changing of the Guard ceremony, which takes place every hour on the hour.
Third, come to Taiwan’s oldest district - Dadaocheng (大稻埕) & Dihua Street (迪化街) for lunch and city walk. Dadaocheng, a prior top 1 trade port in 1851, is now a living museum of Taipei's urban culture. A one-stop shop sells tea, traditional Chinese medicine, food, and more. Go to Dadaocheng like old-school Taiwanese!
For lunch, savor classic Dadaocheng Braised Pork Rice (大稻埕卤肉饭). Incredibly tender pork melts in your mouth, rich with abundant collagen without being greasy.
After your meal, stroll along Dadaocheng Wharf to enjoy the breeze. And, wander through Dihua Street within Dadaocheng, browse its various shops, old-style architecture, and the City God Temple.
Then, head to the National Palace Museum (故宫博物院). It's one of the best museums in the world. Finished in 1965 in the style of traditional Chinese palace, museum houses almost 700,000 items, showing Chinese art from 8,000 years ago all the way to today.
Admire amazing three national treasures on the main four-story floor: Meat-Shaped Stone (looks like real pork belly), Jadeite Cabbage with Insects (a beautiful jade carving that was part of a queen's dowry), and Mao Gong Ding (an ancient bronze pot from Western Zhou Dynasty with ancient offer” inside). Look into ancient times that have long passed.
At dusk, taste famous street food at Shilin Night Market (士林夜市) near the museum. It's Taipei's largest and most famous night market. Top choice for late-night snacks on your first visit to Taipei! Here, you'll find over 500 food stalls. We recommend trying Salted Chicken (盐水鸡), Stinky Tofu (臭豆腐), and Pepper Buns (胡椒饼).
After the tour, back at hotel in Taipei.
Today, start one day food tour from breakfast to dinner. Wake up to a classic Taiwanese breakfast at Fuhang Soy Milk (阜杭豆浆), which has been recommended by the Michelin for consecutive years. Founded in 1958, this breakfast spot is famous for its signature thick bread with egg and fried dough stick (厚饼蛋夹油条), savory/iced soy milk (咸/冰豆浆), and caramel sweet flatbread (焦糖甜餅). A must-try breakfast to awake your taste buds!
Next, DIY local food through an interesting class. You can get hands-on making traditional Taiwanese delicacies like Xiaolongbao (小笼包), Vermicelli (面线), Tofu Strips Salad (豆腐小菜), and Bubble Tea (珍珠奶茶).
You’ll DIY Xiaolongbao, Taiwan's international culinary icon and a Michelin-listed delight with savory broth, tender pork and paper-thin wrapper. And, cook "commoner's Michelin" Vermicelli, a fragrant homemade dish, paired with local favorite Tofu Strips Salad. Plus, make Bubble Tea, Taiwan's national drink that quickly spread globally after its 1980s innovation—add tapioca pearls to your milk tea and shake it up!
Have lunch at Chifan Shítáng (喫饭食堂) for home-style Taiwanese dishes. We recommend their signature Pan-Fried Pork Liver (煎猪肝), Sweet & Salty Chicken (三杯鸡), Clams with Garlic Sauce (蒜泥蛤蜊), and Salted Egg Yolk Broccoli (咸蛋花椰菜).
After lunch, wander down Yongkang Street (永康街), one of Taipei's most unique and popular spots for food and culture. This 600-meter stretch is famous for its incredible food and cool shops. Foodies must visit Yongkang Beef Noodles (永康牛肉面), a consecutive Bib Gourmand recipient, known for its fragrant, spicy broth and tender beef.
Then, head to longshan Temple (龙山寺), Taipei's spiritual heart, one of Taipei's most historic and beloved temples. This nearly 300-year-old temple blends Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian traditions. Hailed as the "essence of Taiwanese temple art," its exquisite architecture boasts ornate carvings, palace-style wood, and intricate details.
This lively temple, a one-stop spiritual center for locals, enshrines Guanyin and other deities where people seek blessings for peace, relationships, exams, careers, and health. Every longing finds its answer. Both devotees and travelers can find serenity and historical charm here. Photography enthusiasts will find it rich with historical charm at every click. Feel free to join local customs or simply observe.
For dinner, head to Wang's Broth (小王煮瓜), a Michelin-recommended spot near Longshan Temple, for their Braised Pork with Mushroom Rice (香菇控肉饭). Springy pork and juicy mushrooms!
After the tour, your 2 Days Taipei Food Tour concludes. We’ll take you to airport or High-Speed Station for your next destination. Thank you for choosing Asia Odyssey Travel for your Taipei tour!
