Welcome to Taipei to savor street food in night markets and travel best of Taiwan. Your guide and driver will meet you at airport and escort you to hotel for check-in. Journey begins at afternoon!
First, head to longshan Temple (龙山寺), Taipei's spiritual heart, one of Taipei's most historic and beloved temples. This nearly 300-year-old temple blends Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian traditions. Hailed as the "essence of Taiwanese temple art," its exquisite architecture boasts ornate carvings, palace-style wood, and intricate details.
This lively temple, a one-stop spiritual center for locals, enshrines Guanyin and other deities where people seek blessings for peace, relationships, exams, careers, and health. Every longing finds its answer. Both devotees and travelers can find serenity and historical charm here. Photography enthusiasts will find it rich with historical charm at every click. Feel free to join local customs or simply observe.
Second, discover Taipei's street style in Ximending (西门町), Taipei's iconic hub for pop culture and youth trends, often called Taiwan's "Harajuku." Shop for trendy Japanese, Korean and local brands, dive into anime culture, savor classic snacks like mianxian (vermicelli) and luwei (braised dishes). And snap cool photos, watch street performers, and explore nostalgic shops like Cinema Street, the birthplace of Taiwanese film culture. This is the youth map for countless Taipei youngsters. Tattooed individuals, same-sex couples, subculture enthusiasts, and curious tourists all converge. Here, you can feel completely embraced by the world.
Third, go to nearby Ximending Night Market (西门町夜市). Taipei's youth adore this artsy night market, a complete hub for eating, drinking, and entertainment. A must-try is classic Taiwanese snack, Oyster Omelet (蚵仔煎), with its fresh oysters and crispy edges. Also try silky-smooth Douhua (豆花), which boasts a rich soy aroma and a sweet, yet not cloying, syrup with shaved ice.
Then, save some room to head to Shilin Night Market (士林夜市) after 5PM. It's Taipei's largest and most famous night market. Top choice for late-night snacks on your first visit to Taipei! Here, you'll find over 500 food stalls. We recommend trying Salted Chicken (盐水鸡), Stinky Tofu (臭豆腐), and Pepper Buns (胡椒饼).
After the tour, drive back to hotel in Taipei.
Today covers afternoon & night visits to top tier museum, old districts and night markets.
First, head to the National Palace Museum (故宫博物院). It's one of the best museums in the world. Finished in 1965 in the style of traditional Chinese palace, museum houses almost 700,000 items, showing Chinese art from 8,000 years ago all the way to today.
Most of the amazing items are on the main four-story floor. You’ll admire three national treasures: Meat-Shaped Stone (looks like real pork belly), Jadeite Cabbage with Insects (a beautiful jade carving that was part of a queen's dowry), and Mao Gong Ding (an ancient bronze pot from Western Zhou Dynasty with ancient offer” inside). Look into ancient times that have long passed.
Second, come to Taiwan’s oldest district - Dadaocheng (大稻埕) & Dihua Street (迪化街) for city walk. Dadaocheng, a prior top 1 trade port in 1851, is now a living museum of Taipei's urban culture. A one-stop shop sells tea, traditional Chinese medicine, food, and more. This area saves shopping memories for generations of old-school Taiwanese. Spend time, go to Dadaocheng!
Stroll along Dadaocheng Wharf to enjoy the breeze. And, wander through Dihua Street within Dadaocheng, browse its various shops, old-style architecture, and the City God Temple.
Third, eat street food at Ningxia Night Market (宁夏夜市) after 5 PM. It’s known as "the stomach of Taipei," focuses on traditional Taiwanese snacks. Though not large in scale, it boasts countless delicious food. We recommend trying papaya milk (木瓜牛奶), large chicken skewers (大鸡肉串), fried squid (炸鱿鱼), stinky tofu (臭豆腐), big sausages (大香肠), and grilled chicken leg steak (烤鸡腿排).
Then drive 0.5h to Raohe Night Market (饶河夜市), the oldest night market in Taipei. This 600-meter street gathers hundreds of food stalls. Be sure to try Crispy Fried Scallops (酥炸带子), Peanut Ice Cream Rolls (花生卷冰淇淋), Chen Dong Pork Ribs Medicinal Soup (陈董药炖排骨), Salted Chicken (盐水鸡), and Sugarcane Juice (甘蔗汁).
After the tour, back at hotel in Taipei.
Today begins with morning market, ending with two landmarks of Taipei.
First Stop is Dongmen Morning Market (东门早市), a bustling local market, with meats, seafood, fruit, snacks, and much more. Have a Taipei morning art at this 70+ year old market! You can taste various traditional delicacies like turnip cakes (萝卜丝馅饼), handmade douhua (手工豆花), and rice noodle soup (米粉汤).
Right near the Morning Market is your second stop - Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (中正纪念堂). It’s one of Taipei's iconic landmarks. Completed in 1980, it was built to commemorate the first president of the Republic of China. The memorial hall features white walls and a roof adorned with sapphire blue glazed tiles.
First floor displays Japan's instrument of surrender from World War II and life of this political powerhouse. Go ahead to outer plaza. You can get a good shot to visit the Changing of the Guard ceremony, which takes place every hour on the hour.
Then, head to the foot of Taipei 101 to admire its exterior. At 508 meters high, Taipei 101 is the most iconic landmark in Taipei, holding the title of "world's tallest building" from 2004 to 2010. Its bamboo-stalk design blesses continuous growth and prosperity in Chinese culture.
Optional: You can opt to visit the panoramic view of Taipei city on the 89th floor.
After the tour, your 3 Days Taipei Night Market Tour concludes. We’ll take you to airport or High-Speed Station for your next destination. Thank you for choosing Asia Odyssey Travel for your Taipei tour!
