Tianjin Location Map - Tianjin on the China Map
Where is Tianjin? A Tianjin location map makes it easy to see. Tianjin lies in the northeastern part of the North China Plain, near the Bohai Sea. You can also use its coordinates, 39.088, 117.191, to find it quickly on a map.
Tianjin is one of the four municipalities directly under the central government of China. The other three are Beijing, Shanghai, and Chongqing. It is also an important port city, connecting North China to the sea.
On a Tianjin China map, one thing is easy to notice: Tianjin is very close to Beijing. The two city centers are about 120 kilometers apart in a straight line. This is one of the main reasons why Tianjin is a popular side trip from Beijing.
For first-time visitors, the easiest way to understand Tianjin is this:
- Tianjin is southeast of Beijing
- Tianjin is one of the closest major cities to Beijing
- Tianjin is both a historic city and a port city
- Tianjin is a great place for architecture, street food, and easy city walks
Beijing to Tianjin Map: Distance, Transport & Travel Time?
As mentioned above, the short distance(120km) between Beijing and Tianjin makes Tianjin a great day trip from Beijing. When planning your trip, the first thing to check is the transport between the two cities. A Beijing to Tianjin map helps you understand the route quickly.
- High-speed train: It is the easiest and most popular option. The trip usually takes 30 to 40 minutes. And it runs over 260+ bullet trains every day.
- Long-distance bus: In the WeChat mini program "Jing-Jin-Ji Customized Bus", there are many bus services from Beijing to Tianjin. The trip usually takes about 2 to 3 hours.
- Car: The journey usually takes about 2 hours.
On this Beijing to Tianjin map, the main focus is the high-speed rail route. Beijing has six major railway stations with trains to Tianjin's four main railway stations.
For most travelers, the most commonly used route is Beijing South Railway Station to Tianjin Railway Station. For most first-time visitors, Tianjin Railway Station is the best choice. It is close to the city center and convenient for sightseeing.
| Tianjin Station | Location | Distance to City Center | Best for Visiting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tianjin Railway Station | Hedong District | About 4 km | Italian Style Town, Jiefang Bridge, Ancient Culture Street, Haihe River |
| Tianjin West Railway Station | Hongqiao District | About 5 km | Ancient Culture Street, Tianjin Eye, Drum Tower |

| Binhai Railway Station | Binhai New Area | About 45 km | TEDA, Binhai Library, Dongjiang Bay, coastal areas |

Tianjin City Map: Must-Know Districts (Tourist vs Local Areas)
A Tianjin city map helps you quickly see which parts of the city are best for sightseeing and which parts feel more local. Tianjin is a large city with 16 districts, but most visitors only spend time in a few key areas.
In most cases, your trip will focus on the central districts and sometimes Binhai New Area.
The Haihe River is the easiest reference point. It runs through the city center, and many of Tianjin's best-known sights are close to it. If you use the river as your guide, the city is much easier to understand.
For tourists, the main areas are Heping, Hebei, Nankai, and Hongqiao. These districts include many of the city's most famous sights, historic streets, and main railway stations.
Heping District is the Main Tourist Area
It is home to Wudadao, elegant old buildings, good hotels, shopping streets, and many restaurants. If it is your first time in Tianjin, you will likely spend a lot of time here.
Hebei District is One of the Most Famous Historic Areas in Tianjin
Hebei District is home to the Italian Style Town. Tianjin Railway Station is also nearby. If you arrive by high-speed train, this area may be your first look at the city.
Nankai District: Mixed
Nankai District shows a more traditional side of Tianjin. Important places here include Ancient Culture Street, the Drum Tower area, and Nankai University. It is a good area to experience old Tianjin and local daily life.
Hongqiao District has Iconic Landmark of Tianjin
Hongqiao District is best known for Tianjin West Railway Station and the Tianjin Eye. Many travelers pass through this area when arriving by train or visiting one of the city's best-known landmarks.
Binhai New Area: Separate Modern Area
Binhai New Area is the modern coastal part of Tianjin, about 50 kilometers from the city center. It is very different from old Tianjin. Major sights here include the famous Tianjin Binhai Library, as well as the cruise port and other newer developments.
| District | Area Type | Best Known For | Visitor Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heping | Tourist core | Wudadao, hotels, restaurants, historic streets | Best area for first-time visitors |
| Hebei | Tourist + transport area | Italian Style Town, near Tianjin Railway Station | Easy to visit after arriving by train |
| Nankai | Local + historic area | Ancient Culture Street, Drum Tower, Nankai University | Good mix of sights and local life |
| Hongqiao | Transport + landmark area | Tianjin Eye, Tianjin West Railway Station | Useful for landmarks and transport |
| Binhai New Area | Modern coastal area | Binhai Library, cruise port, coastal development | Far from downtown, better for a half-day or full-day trip |
In simple terms, central Tianjin is best for classic sightseeing, while Binhai is better for modern architecture and coastal attractions.
Tianjin Tourist Map: Top Attractions and Where They Are (With Walking Route)
Those Tianjin tourist maps helps first-time visitors see where the city's main sights are and what each area is known for.
This is useful because Tianjin's attractions are spread across several parts of the city. Some are close enough to visit on foot, while others are better for a separate half-day or full-day trip.
The first map is a Tianjin attractions map. It groups the city's top sights by area, so you can quickly understand what to see in each part of Tianjin.
Tinjin Eye — The Landmark of Tianjin City
The Tianjin Eye (天津之眼) is a 120-meter ferris wheel built directly over the Hai River. It is the only ferris wheel in the world that sits on a bridge. A full rotation takes about 30 minutes and gives you a wide view of the city.
The Tianjin Eye lights up after dark, and the reflections on the river are worth the wait.
Italian Style Town (East, near Tianjin Station): 1-2 Hours
The Italian Style Town area is one of the easiest places to start, especially if you arrive at Tianjin Railway Station.
Century Clock is a large city landmark just outside the station. Jiefang Bridge is a historic river bridge and one of the best-known views in central Tianjin. Bei'an Bridge is another beautiful bridge with European-style design.
Marco Polo Square and the wider Italian Style Town are known for old European buildings, small plazas, and former residences of famous people. This whole area is easy to explore on foot.
Central Attractions (City Center): 2-3 Hours
The central sightseeing area is where many of Tianjin's most famous city sights are found. The Porcelain House is a former French-style mansion covered with porcelain pieces and antiques.
Binjiang Road is one of the city's best-known shopping streets. Xikai Church is the largest Catholic church in Tianjin and one of the city's most striking religious buildings.
Minyuan Square is a pleasant open area near Wudadao, the historic neighborhood best known for its old villas and tree-lined streets.
Ancient Culture Street Area (North): 1-2 hours
The Ancient Culture Street area shows a more traditional side of Tianjin. Ancient Culture Street is a popular place for local snacks, folk crafts, and souvenir shopping.
Nearby, the Tianjin Confucius Temple gives you a look at old Chinese temple architecture.
The Drum Tower area is another good stop for old-style streets and local atmosphere. Jintang Bridge links this area with the riverfront and is a useful point on a walking route.
Tianjin Half Day Options: Museums vs Yangliuqing vs Binhai New Area
The southern museum area is best for culture lovers. The Tianjin Museum, Tianjin Art Museum, Tianjin Library, and Tianjin Cultural Center are all in a modern district with wide public spaces.
Farther out, the west side has Yangliuqing Ancient Town, Shijia Courtyard, and Clay Figure Zhang, all linked to folk art and local history.
In Binhai New Area, top sights include the futuristic Binhai Library, Dagu Fort, Dongjiang Bay Beach, TEDA Aircraft Carrier Theme Park, and Tianjin Haichang Polar Ocean Park.
The Classic Tianjin City Walk — 10 Must-See Stops in One Route
The second map is a classic Tianjin city walk map. And it's recommend to first-time visitors. It connects Tianjin's 10 most essential attractions in one continuous walk. Start at Tianjin Railway Station and follow this path:
Century Clock → Liberation Bridge → Jinwan Plaza → Five Great Avenues → Xikai Cathedral → Binjiang Road (Jin Street) → Porcelain House → Bei'an Bridge → Italian Style Town → Ancient Culture Street → Tianjin Eye
Start in the morning. End at the Tianjin Eye at sunset. The ferris wheel lights up after dark, and the river reflections are the perfect way to close your day.
Walking the entire way takes about 7-8 hours and is exhausting. We highly recommend mixing walking and cycling to explore the area comfortably.
Tianjin Metro Map: How to Get Around Tianjin Easily with Lines 1-9
Tianjin's metro system has 6 operating lines covering over 260 kilometers of track. It is clean, affordable, and covers the main tourist areas well. You do not need to learn the whole system. Four lines cover almost every attraction in this guide.
Metro Lines Tourists Actually Need: Line 1,2,3,9
Line 1 runs east to west. It connects Tianjin West Station, the Tianjin Eye area, and Xiaobailou (the closest stop to the Five Great Avenues). This is the single most useful line for tourists.
Line 2 runs roughly north to south. It connects Tianjin Railway Station, the Italian Style Town area, and the Drum Tower. If you arrive by bullet train from Beijing, you will start on this line.
Line 3 connects Tianjin South Station to Heping District. Useful if your train from Beijing arrives at South Station instead of the main station.
Line Z4 (also called Line 9) goes to the Binhai coastal area. It takes you to the Binhai Library and the cruise port district. The ride from the city center to Binhai takes about 50 minutes.
Practical Metro Tips
The metro runs from about 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM. A single ticket costs ¥2 to ¥5 depending on distance. You can buy tickets at machines in every station — most machines have an English language option. If you have Alipay or WeChat Pay set up, you can scan to enter directly.
Download Amap (also called Gaode Maps) before your trip. It works far better than Google Maps in China.
Tianjin Port Map: Guide for Cruise Ship Passengers
If you are arriving in Tianjin by cruise ship, this Tianjin Port Map is specifically for you. The Tianjin International Cruise Home Port (天津国际邮轮母港) is in the Binhai district, about 50 kilometers east of downtown Tianjin and about 170 kilometers from central Beijing.
What to Do with Your Port Time: 3 Options
Option A: Visit Tianjin city center (best for 8 to 12-hour stops). A private transfer or shuttle bus to downtown takes 50 to 60 minutes. Once there, you will have enough time to enjoy two or three of the walking routes described above.
This is what we recommend for most visitors. If you would like us to arrange a Tianjin shore excursion, we handle the pickup from the port, the city tour, and the return transfer.
Option B: Go directly to Beijing (for those who must see the Great Wall or Forbidden City). A private transfer to central Beijing takes 2.5 to 3 hours each way. This is doable if your ship gives you 2 days.
Option C: Stay in the Binhai area (for a relaxed, low-effort day). Visit the Binhai Library and the National Maritime Museum, both within 15 minutes of the port. Then head back to the ship without the stress of a long transfer. This is a good choice if you only have 6 hours or less.
If you only have 8 hours— choose Tianjin. You will spend 5 to 6 hours on a bus if you go to Beijing. Or you can actually experience a fascinating city that most Western tourists never see. Tianjin deserves to be more than Beijing's backup plan.

The Five Famous Tianjin Foods (and Where to Find Them)
Jianbing Guozi (煎饼果子) — Tianjin's most iconic street breakfast. Skip the tourist shops. Find a morning cart in Heping or Nankai with office workers lining up around 7:30 AM.

Erduoyan Zhagao (耳朵眼炸糕) — Fried sticky rice cakes filled with sweet red bean paste. The original shop is on Ancient Culture Street — expect long lines.
Guifaxiang Mahua (桂发祥麻花) — Twisted fried dough flavored with sesame or osmanthus. The best souvenir snack from Tianjin. Buy a box at the Dagu Road flagship store.
Guobacai (锅巴菜) — A local breakfast most tourists never hear about. Find it at morning markets in Nankai or traditional breakfast shops across the city.
5 Food Neighborhoods Worth Exploring
Nanshi Food Street (南市食品街) — Touristy but useful if you only have a few hours for a quick Tianjin food sampler.
Xibei Jiao (西北角) — Tianjin's largest halal food area. The best spot for an authentic local breakfast experience.
Xihu Dao (西湖道) — A neighborhood food street loved by locals. Known for Rongzhenzhai spring rolls and Duchengqi huoshao.
