In June 2025, Mrs. Eileen and her husband planned to travel to Beijing for a 4-day group tour. Before departure, we had already booked their high-speed train tickets from Suzhou to Beijing, and everything seemed perfectly in place.

Trust and Anticipation Before Departure
During our pre-trip conversations, Eileen often shared her excitement about Beijing. “What I’m looking forward to most is standing on the Great Wall and feeling that spirit of ‘He who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true man,’” she said. To make sure everything went smoothly, I double-checked all their tickets and transfer details. Just before departure, she even asked, “Kristin, could you confirm the train tickets one more time?” I replied with a smile, “Don’t worry, everything is ready.”
The Unexpected: When the Tickets “Disappeared”
But plans don’t always go as expected. At the railway station, just as they were about to check in, the ticketing system malfunctioned, and their tickets wouldn’t scan. Time was running out, and they risked missing their train. In a panic, Eileen messaged me: “Kristin, we can’t get through—the tickets won’t scan!”
I immediately realized the seriousness. Missing the train would delay their arrival in Beijing and disrupt the next day’s sightseeing.
Quick Response: Calm in the Crisis
I reassured them right away: “Don’t worry, I’m here, I’ll take care of this for you.” I quickly contacted our Beijing tour guide and coordinated with the ticketing office to find the next available train. Within 20 minutes, I successfully rebooked them onto a new train, ensuring they could continue without major delay.
To make up for the inconvenience, I promised: “When you arrive in Beijing, we’ll treat you to an authentic Peking duck dinner—our little way of saying sorry.”
Eileen replied warmly: “Thank you, Kristin. You really make us feel taken care of.”
Their Journey Through Beijing

Once they arrived safely, I kept in touch to make sure everything went smoothly. The rest of their Beijing trip was filled with memorable moments:
At Tiananmen Square, they posed for photos, feeling the gravity of history.
In the Forbidden City, they admired treasures and intricate clocks in the galleries.
From the top of Jingshan Park, they gazed over the entire palace complex, saying, “China’s history truly deserves to be called magnificent.”
At the Summer Palace, they strolled by Kunming Lake and enjoyed a peaceful boat ride.
And finally, on the Mutianyu Great Wall, Eileen and her husband climbed hand in hand, breathless yet smiling. She sent me a photo with the caption: “Kristin, we did it!”
A Warm Ending
At the end of the trip, Eileen left us heartfelt feedback:
“Kristin, you not only saved our trip at the very beginning, but you also made us feel looked after all the way. That kind of care is rare to find. In all, it was a delightful experience and I’d definitely use AOT again.”
My Reflection
This experience reminded me that being a travel consultant is not just about booking tickets and hotels. More importantly, it’s about being the most reliable support when the unexpected happens. Eileen’s trust and gratitude turned what could have been a frustrating setback into a warm memory—and that, to me, is the true meaning of this profession.
