Day 1 Beijing Arrival | Airport Pick-up and Hotel Check-in

Nihao! Welcome to Beijing, the capital city of China! Upon your arrival at the airport/train station in Beijing, the tour guide and driver will meet and greet you at the exit, and then escort you to the well-selected hotel in downtown Beijing. The rest of the day is free on your own so you can have a good rest for the jet lag or explore by yourself around your hotel.

Day 2 Beijing City Tour | Tian’anmen Square, Forbidden City, Jinshan Park, Old Hutongs

After breakfast, your guide will meet you at your hotel to begin your journey through Beijing’s history.

We start at Tian’anmen Square, the symbolic heart of China and the world’s largest public square. After soaking in its significance, we walk directly into the Forbidden City. As the world’s largest palace complex, this "city within a city" was home to 24 emperors. We will enter through the Meridian Gate and follow the central axis to ensure you see the most iconic halls, intricate architecture, and royal treasures while your guide shares the fascinating secrets of imperial life.

Just a short walk away, we ascend Jingshan Park. From the hilltop pavilion, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the Forbidden City’s golden roofs set against the backdrop of modern Beijing.

In the afternoon, we trade imperial grandeur for local charm. Explore Beijing’s old Hutongs via a traditional rickshaw. You will wind through these narrow, historic alleys, passing local shops and homes to get a genuine glimpse of everyday life in the capital.

i Optional Evening Suggestion:

If you prefer, cap off your day by savoring Beijing’s most famous culinary delight—authentic Peking Roasted Duck at a renowned local restaurant.

Day 3 Beijing Great Wall Tour | Mutianyu Great Wall, Bird’s Nest & Water Cube (Photo Stop)

This morning, we drive northwest (about 1.5-2 hours’ drive, 73km) to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. Famous for its well-preserved Ming-era watchtowers and lush, forested surroundings, Mutianyu offers a more peaceful and authentic experience than other sections.

We will take a cable car up to the 14th watchtower to begin our hike. As you walk the western route, you will be surrounded by panoramic views of the wall winding majestically over the mountain ridges. For those seeking a challenge, the climb to the 20th watchtower is highly recommended—it offers the most iconic vistas and is the perfect spot to capture your Great Wall memories. Take cable car to get down.

After this unforgettable experience, we return to the city center for a photo stop at the Bird’s Nest (National Stadium) and the Water Cube (National Aquatics Center). These architectural marvels, iconic symbols of both the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2022 Winter Games, provide a striking contrast to the ancient history you explored earlier in the day.

We will then transfer you back to your hotel to relax and unwind.

Day 4 Beijing to Shanghai by High Speed Train | Summer Palace

After breakfast, we head to the Summer Palace, once the imperial retreat for China’s royal families. Known as the "Museum of Royal Gardens," this sprawling estate is a masterpiece of classical landscape design. You will enjoy a leisurely walk past ornate pavilions, serene lakes, and winding corridors, feeling as though you have stepped into a traditional Chinese painting.

Following our tour, we transfer to the railway station for your high-speed train to Shanghai. This smooth, 4.5 to 5.5-hour journey whisks you across the landscape, offering a glimpse of China’s modern infrastructure.

Upon arrival in Shanghai, China’s most vibrant and cosmopolitan metropolis, our local team in Shanghai will meet you at the railway station. We will then escort you directly to your hotel for a relaxing evening.

Day 5 Shanghai City Tour | Shanghai Museum, Yu Garden, Nanjing Road & The Bund

In this morning, begin our morning at the Shanghai Museum, a world-class institution housed in a striking building designed to symbolize the ancient Chinese concept of "round sky, square earth." With a collection of over 120,000 relics, this is the perfect place to explore 5,000 years of Chinese art. Don’t miss the exquisite bronze and ceramic halls, where you can view legendary treasures like the 3,000-year-old Da Ke Ding vessel.

Later, continue your exploration at the Shanghai Tower. Ascending to the 118th floor—546 meters above the city—you will enjoy a breathtaking, panoramic view of the modern metropolis.

Next, we visit Yu Garden, a peaceful oasis of classical Chinese landscaping hidden in the heart of the bustling city. Stroll past intricate rockeries, ornate pavilions, and traditional sculptures before exploring the lively Yuyuan Bazaar just outside, where you can sample local snacks and browse traditional handicrafts.

In the afternoon, we walk down the vibrant Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, a bustling thoroughfare lined with shops and cafes. We continue to The Bund, Shanghai’s most iconic waterfront. Known as an "Exhibition of International Buildings," this area features 52 historic structures that offer a stunning contrast to the futuristic skyscrapers across the river in Pudong.

After the tour, be escorted to your hotel in Shanghai.

Expert Advice and Ideas for Your China Trip

Frequently Asked Questions
It is my first time to China, how can I plan a China Tour?+

For a first-time visitor, the most popular and rewarding route covers China's past, present, and future. A standard 8 to 12-day itinerary usually includes:

  • Beijing (3-4 days): The historical heart. Must-sees: The Great Wall, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, and Summer Palace.
  • Xi'an (2-3 days): The ancient capital. Must-sees: The Terracotta Warriors, Muslim Quarter, and cycling on the Ancient City Wall.
  • Shanghai (2-3 days): The modern metropolis. Must-sees: The Bund, Yu Garden, and the futuristic skyline of Pudong.
  • Optional Add-ons (if you have 14+ days): Chengdu (Giant Pandas), Zhangjiajie (Avatar Mountains), Guilin/Yangshuo (Karst mountain landscapes) or Mount Everest Base Camp.
When is the best time to visit China?+

The universally agreed-upon best times to visit China are Spring (April to May) and Autumn (September to October).

1. Autumn (September to October) - The Absolute Best: The weather is generally perfect across the country. The summer heat and rains have passed, leaving clear skies, crisp air, and comfortable temperatures. This is the best time to hike the Great Wall, see the fall foliage in places like Jiuzhaigou, and enjoy outdoor activities in Yangshuo or Zhangjiajie.

2. Spring (April to May) - The Close Second: The weather warms up, and nature comes back to life. Temperatures are mild and pleasant. You can witness beautiful spring blossoms, such as peach blossoms in Guilin and cherry blossoms in various cities. It is a great time for cruising the Yangtze River or visiting the pandas in Chengdu.

3. Best Time for Specific Interests:

  • For Winter Magic (December to February): Head north to Harbin for the world-famous Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival.
  • For Tropical Escapes (November to March): Head to China's southernmost provinces, like Hainan Island or Xishuangbanna in Yunnan, to escape the winter chill.

Crucial Dates to Avoid:

Try your best to avoid traveling during China's major public holidays, when hundreds of millions of people travel domestically:

  • National Day Holiday ("Golden Week"): October 1st to October 7th. (Aim for mid-to-late October or September instead).
  • Labor Day Holiday: May 1st to May 5th.
  • Chinese New Year (Spring Festival): Usually falls in late January or February. While culturally fascinating, many shops and restaurants close, and transportation networks are pushed to their absolute limits.
