Optional Bab Zuweila Alternative: The Cave Church (St. Simon the Tanner)

Later, you will be escorted to Cairo International Airport for your domestic flight to Luxor (1h around). Upon arrival in Luxor, check into your hotel and enjoy a restful evening.
Optional Karnak Temple Sound and Light Show (from $65.00 US Dollars/person)
This immersive show brings the massive columns and pylons of Karnak Temple to life with dramatic lighting and music. As you walk through the illuminated Avenue of Sphinxes and the Great Hypostyle Hall, a haunting narrative unveils the rise of Thebes and the glorious history of the Pharaohs who built this ancient wonder.

Today, you will explore the open-air museum of Luxor, uncovering the ancient wonders on both sides of the Nile before flying back to Cairo.
You can wake up with an optional hot air ballon sunrise if you can get up early (approx. 04:30 - 05:00 pickup, subject to sunrise time). Drifting peacefully above the illuminated temples, lush green fields, and the rugged desert canyons of the West Bank.
To outsmart the intense midday desert heat and beat the large tour crowds, we intentionally arrange your West Bank exploration in the cooler morning hours.
First, venture into the legendary Valley of the Kings, entering the rock-cut tombs of Egypt’s greatest Pharaohs while the air inside remains comfortable.
Continue to the stunning Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, a masterpiece of ancient architecture built dramatically into the sheer limestone cliffs.
Then, make a brief stop at the towering Colossi of Memnon, two massive stone statues that have stood guard here for millennia. Catching it before the sun stands directly overhead.
As the noon heat peaks, we escape the sun into our modern, fully air-conditioned vehicle. Relax in cool comfort with complimentary chilled bottled water as we cross back over the Nile to the East Bank for a leisurely lunch and a refreshing midday rest.
In the afternoon, you will walk through the monumental Karnak Temple, the largest religious complex ever built, where the afternoon sun casts breathtaking shadows through the giant columns of the Great Hypostyle Hall.
We specially save the Luxor Temple for our final stop. This allows you to experience the magic of the ancient stone structures with a golden glow.
Later in the evening, you will be transferred to Luxor Airport for your domestic flight back to Cairo (1h around). Upon arrival, check into your Cairo hotel for a relaxing night.

Thank you for choosing Asia Odyssey Travel (AOT) for your 5 Days Cairo and Luxor tour. We are always dedicated to serving you and look forward to welcoming you again for your future trips to China/Asia/Africa.
For a high-quality and comfortable vacation, we strongly recommend traveling by flight. However, we also provide an overnight sleeper train option for budget-conscious travelers. The final choice can be tailored based on real-time flight schedules and train timetables.
| Feature | Domestic Flight (Recommended) | Overnight Sleeper Train (Budget Option) |
|---|---|---|
| Travel Time | Approx. 1 hour (Fast & seamless) | Approx. 10–12 hours (Long journey) |
| Comfort Level | High. Maximizes your rest and energy. | Basic. Bumpy rail travel, shared twin cabins. |
| Time Efficiency | Saves nearly 20 hours round-trip for sightseeing. | Consumes a full night; might cause travel fatigue. |
| AOT's Take | Best for maximizing your 5 days Cairo and Luxor tour. | A solid alternative if you want to experience classic Egyptian rail or save on a hotel night. |
Technically, yes—we can customize a compressed 3 days Cairo and Luxor tour featuring 2 days in Cairo and 1 intensive day in Luxor. However, we generally do not recommend it.
Compressing the trip means booking four domestic flights within just 72 hours, which makes the airfare-to-sightseeing ratio economically inefficient. You would spend too much time in airports, leaving little room to truly absorb the soul of ancient Egypt. A 5-day pace remains the sweet spot for a seamless, unhurried experience.
Over 90% of Egypt’s classic Nile Cruises operate exclusively between Luxor and Aswan, as the most iconic temples are concentrated along this southern stretch of the river.
If you wish to weave a cruise into your journey, we can seamlessly upgrade your itinerary in two ways:
Option A: Add a 4-day cruise from Luxor to Aswan following your Luxor tour.
Option B (Highly Recommended): Fly from Cairo to Aswan first, and then take an Aswan to Luxor cruise. Traveling from Aswan to Luxor is downstream, which saves a full day of sailing time. We intentionally reinvest this saved time into a richer Aswan tour, giving you the exclusive chance to sail on a traditional Felucca (Egyptian sailboat) at sunset.
Never. AOT stands for pure, high-quality exploration. Whether you are joining us for a quick day trip to Luxor from Cairo or a comprehensive multi-day journey, all our itineraries are 100% shopping-free.
Your expert Egyptologist guide is there solely to unveil the rich history and mysteries of the Pharaohs at your own comfortable pace, without any commercial distractions.
