Day 1 Luxor Temple Tour & Departure | Karnak Temple & Luxor Temple (Day & Night), Optional Karnak Temple Sound and Light Show

Welcome to Luxor! No matter you are coming from Cairo or Hurghada / Sharm El Sheikh in Red Sea area, be ready to be completely captivated.

This is the ultimate sanctuary of the Pharaohs, where the towering pylons of Karnak and the illuminated columns of Luxor Temple stand as eternal portals to the divine.

Upon arrival, your Luxor temple guide/driver will wait for you in the airport/port, and then escort you to Karnak Temple.

Luxor Temple Tour in Daytime

We begin our journey at the overwhelming complex of Karnak Temple, the largest religious site ever built by human hands.

Walking through the imposing first pylon, you will feel incredibly small as you enter the legendary Great Hypostyle Hall, a forest of 134 colossal sandstone columns that shoot up toward the heavens like ancient stone trees.

Your expert guide will unravel the intricate hieroglyphics carved deep into the stone, guiding you through a labyrinth of obelisks, sacred lakes, and chapels that took over 2,000 years to complete under the golden Egyptian sun.

After absorbing the sheer scale of Karnak, we follow the historical thread south to Luxor Temple for a daytime preview. Seeing this temple by day allows you to appreciate its architectural symmetry.

You will stand in awe before the towering statues of Ramses II and the monumental pink granite obelisk, admiring how the bright daylight reveals the finer details of the battle reliefs and divine carvings that have guarded this sanctuary for centuries.

Luxor Temple Tour at Night

As afternoon fades into twilight and the fierce sun dips below the horizon, we return to Luxor Temple to witness its dramatic transformation. When darkness falls after 18:00, the magic truly begins as the entire temple complex is illuminated with a warm, theatrical amber glow.

Walking down the famous Avenue of Sphinxes under the stars, the beautifully lit statues create an unforgettable atmosphere of ancient romance and mystery.

The shadows cast by the lights give the giant pharaonic statues a lifelike presence, making you feel as though you are walking alongside the ancient kings themselves during a nocturnal ritual.

After the Luxor Temple Night Tour, you will be escorted to the airport/train station/port to catch your flight or cruise. You will leave Luxor behind, but the memory of monumental pylons, illuminated stone columns under the stars, and the grandiosity of the Pharaohs will undoubtedly stay with you for a lifetime.

If your energy allows, take an optional Karnak Temple Sound and Light Show before leaving.

Optional Karnak Temple Sound and Light Show (from $65.00 US Dollars/person)

  • Time: 19:00 or 20:00 (Subject to change based on the season)
  • Duration: 1h
  • Address: Karnak Temple Complex, Luxor

This immersive show brings the massive columns and pylons of Karnak Temple to life with dramatic lighting and music. As you walk through the illuminated Avenue of Sphinxes and the Great Hypostyle Hall, a haunting narrative unveils the rise of Thebes and the glorious history of the Pharaohs who built this ancient wonder.

Day 2 Optional Luxor West Bank Tour

Why rush back when the night ends late? After finishing the magical Luxor Temple night tour, it will already be quite late. Staying one more night in Luxor allows you to catch a dreamlike Hot Air Ballon sunrise and explore the wonders of the West Bank like Valley of the Kings the very next day.

Optional Extra One Day Luxor West Bank Tour:

You can wake up with an optional hot air ballon sunrise if you can get up early (approx. 04:30 - 05:00 pickup, subject to sunrise time). Drifting peacefully above the illuminated temples, lush green fields, and the rugged desert canyons of the West Bank.

To outsmart the intense midday desert heat and beat the large tour crowds, we intentionally arrange your West Bank exploration in the cooler morning hours.

First, venture into the legendary Valley of the Kings, entering the rock-cut tombs of Egypt’s greatest Pharaohs while the air inside remains comfortable.

Continue to the stunning Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, a masterpiece of ancient architecture built dramatically into the sheer limestone cliffs.

Then, make a brief stop at the towering Colossi of Memnon, two massive stone statues that have stood guard here for millennia. Catching it before the sun stands directly overhead.

After the Luxor west bank tour, your guide/driver will escort you back to the airport/train station/port for departure.

Expert Advice and Ideas for Your Luxor Temple Tour

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Is the Luxor Temple Night Tour really different from the daytime visit? +

Absolutely—and it’s one of the most discussed experiences on Instagram and YouTube.

During the daytime, you can clearly appreciate the architectural scale, hieroglyphic details, and historical structure of Luxor Temple in natural light. However, after sunset (around 18:00), the temple transforms completely.

Warm golden lighting illuminates the Avenue of Sphinxes, while shadows bring dramatic depth to the colossal statues of Ramses II, creating a cinematic and almost theatrical atmosphere.

Experiencing both day and night visits allows you to see two entirely different “personalities” of the same ancient sacred site.

Q2: What should I know about the optional Karnak Sound and Light Show regarding my departure? +

The Karnak Sound and Light Show is highly theatrical and visually impressive, but timing is important.

The earliest session typically finishes around 20:00, which may conflict with late-night flights, train departures, or cruise boarding schedules.

We strongly recommend selecting this experience only if you are staying overnight in Luxor, so you can enjoy it without time pressure.

Q3: Can I take photos inside the Valley of the Kings? What’s the current rule? +

Yes. The current policy allows standard smartphone photography inside most open tombs in the Valley of the Kings.

Flash photography is strictly prohibited in order to protect the ancient wall paintings and pigments, some of which are over 3,000 years old.

Visitors are also advised to respect tomb guardians’ instructions and avoid using flash even briefly, as enforcement is active on-site.

Q4: What is the dress code for exploring temples and tombs in Luxor? +

There is no strict formal dress code for temples and tombs, but practical and respectful clothing is strongly recommended.

Luxor can be extremely hot, especially on the West Bank, so lightweight, breathable fabrics such as linen or cotton are ideal.

It is also advisable to cover shoulders and knees for cultural respect and sun protection. Essentials include a hat, sunglasses, and comfortable walking shoes suitable for uneven ancient terrain.

Q5: I’m prone to motion sickness. Should I do the Hot Air Balloon? +

The Hot Air Balloon experience over Luxor is generally very smooth, as the basket drifts gently with wind currents and does not involve sudden movement or turbulence.

The landing may involve a slight bump on desert terrain, but most passengers find it manageable.

If you are highly sensitive to heights or unsure, an excellent alternative is to view the sunrise from the ground near the Colossi of Memnon, which still offers a stunning early-morning landscape of the West Bank.

Q6: Can I visit Luxor West Bank and East Bank in one day? +

It is technically possible, but not recommended for most travelers.

Combining both the West Bank (Valley of the Kings, tombs, and sunrise balloon) and East Bank (Karnak and Luxor Temples) in a single day often leads to a rushed experience with limited time at each site.

A two-day itinerary is strongly advised to fully enjoy Luxor’s highlights at a comfortable pace, avoid peak heat, and experience both sunrise and evening atmospheres without exhaustion.
