Day 1 Valley of the Kings Tour | Valley of the Kings, Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, Colossi of Memnon, Optional Valley of the Queens, Optional The Artisans' Village

Welcome to Luxor! No matter you are coming from Cairo or Hurghada / Sharm El Sheikh in Red Sea area, today is for the mysteries of Luxor West Bank.

Upon arrival, your Luxor guide/driver will wait for you in the airport/port, and then escort you to Valley of the Kings.

We arrive at the hidden canyon of the Valley of the Kings as early as possible to beat the heavy tourist buses and the midday sun. For nearly 500 years during the New Kingdom, pharaohs abandoned the highly visible pyramids—which acted as beacons for grave robbers—in favor of these secretive, rock-cut tombs hidden beneath the peak of Al-Qurn.

Your guide will lead you down the long, sloping corridors of three remarkable tombs. As you descend, the rock walls come alive with intricate paintings designed to guide the Pharaoh’s soul safely into the afterlife.

You will see the incredibly fresh yellow, blue, and red pigments that depict the sun god's nightly journey, and stand in the heart of the burial chambers where massive stone sarcophagi once rested. Because we don't waste time at souvenir factories, you can truly absorb the heavy, sacred silence of this royal necropolis.

Valley of the Kings Tour Note:

Premium tombs such as King Tutankhamun, Seti I, or Ramesses VI require additional on-site tickets. If you wish to enter these, your guide will arrange them smoothly without cutting into your core touring time.

Your tour never ends here. Next, we drive over the ridge to the Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari. This architectural masterpiece rises from the desert floor in three grand terraces, designed to mimic the lines of the towering cliffs behind it.

Before lunch, we stop briefly at the Colossi of Memnon, two giant quartz-sandstone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III that have weathered the Nile floods for over three millennia.

For travelers who want to dig even deeper into West Bank history, you can customize your afternoon with two exceptional alternatives:

  • Valley of the Queens: The final resting place of pharaonic wives and princes, featuring the world-famous, ultra-vivid tomb of Queen Nefertari.
  • The Artisans' Village (Deir el-Medina): The ancient walled town of the master artists and builders who actually cut and painted the royal tombs. Their private tombs feature beautifully detailed, colorful scenes of ancient daily life, farming, and family.

Following your tour, your private driver will transfer you smoothly to the airport, train station, or cruise port for your departure.

Optional Luxor Temple at Night (after 18:00)

Before heading to your departure point, you can add a visit to Luxor Temple at Night. Watching the colossal statues of Ramses II light up under the stars is the perfect, cinematic finale to your journey.

Optional 1h Karnak Temple Sound and Light Show (19:00 or 20:00, from $65.00 US Dollars/person)

As you walk through the illuminated Avenue of Sphinxes and the Great Hypostyle Hall, a haunting narrative unveils the rise of Thebes and the glorious history of the Pharaohs who built this ancient wonder.

Expert Advice and Ideas for Your Valley of the Kings Tour

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Your itinerary includes 3 tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Can I choose which ones to enter? +

Your general entry ticket includes access to three standard tombs. Instead of random selection or self-guided wandering, your private Egyptologist guide will carefully select three tombs based on the best conditions on the day of your visit.

Selections are typically based on factors such as wall painting preservation, crowd levels, and historical significance, ensuring you have the most rewarding experience possible.

Q2: Are famous tombs like King Tutankhamun or Seti I included in the standard tour? +

No. Tombs such as King Tutankhamun, Seti I, and Ramesses VI require additional premium tickets issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities and are not included in the standard entry package.

However, travelers who wish to visit these tombs can easily purchase additional tickets on-site with assistance from their guide. Because these visits are optional, your itinerary remains flexible, and you will still have ample time to explore the Valley of the Kings without rushing.

Q3: Is it worth visiting the Valley of the Queens in addition to the Valley of the Kings? +

The answer depends on your interests and budget.

The Valley of the Queens is smaller and generally less extensive than the Valley of the Kings, but it includes one extraordinary highlight: the Tomb of Queen Nefertari (QV66), often described as one of the most beautiful tombs in Egypt due to its remarkably preserved and vividly colored wall paintings.

Access to Nefertari’s tomb requires a premium ticket, but for many visitors it is considered a once-in-a-lifetime highlight.

If you prefer a lower-cost alternative, Deir el-Medina (the Valley of the Artisans) offers fascinating insight into daily life in ancient Egypt and serves as an excellent complement to the royal tombs.

Q4: Can I take photos inside the royal tombs? +

Yes. Standard smartphone photography without flash is currently allowed inside most tombs in the Valley of the Kings.

Flash photography is strictly prohibited to protect the ancient wall paintings and pigments. If you wish to use a professional camera or tripod, a separate photography permit must be purchased at the entrance.

Q5: How does the Day 2 East Bank add-on work with my departure? +

The itinerary is designed for a smooth and flexible departure experience.

After a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the West Bank (optional), you will continue with a relaxed visit to Luxor’s East Bank highlights, including Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple.

At the end of the tour, your private driver will transfer you directly to Luxor Airport, the train station, or cruise port in time for your onward journey, ensuring a seamless and stress-free departure.
