Car Options

Your choice of car largely depends on how much luggage you have and where your trip continues after Tongli.

  • Private Taxi / Ride-Hailing (Didi / local taxi):

This is simple and convenient for solo travelers or couples who are returning to Shanghai after their Tongli visit. It's better to use Didi rather than a regular taxi, because Didi follows the route you select and shows the fare upfront, giving you more control.

  • Private Transfer / Chauffeur Service:

If you're staying overnight in Tongli or planning to continue your trip to another city like Suzhou or Hangzhou after Tongli, a private transfer is ideal. This option is perfect for groups or families, often comes with flexible pickup times, and sometimes allows for optional scenic stops along the way.

Practical Tips
  • Make sure your driver knows to drop you at the North Gate, as GPS sometimes defaults to the South Gate.
  • If you're visiting on a weekend, allow extra 15–30 minutes for traffic.
  • For budget-conscious travelers, splitting the fare in a group ride can save cost.
  • Consider combining your trip with nearby Suzhou attractions for a longer day trip.

Booked a 6D5N trip to Bhutan with Asia Odyssey and everything went very well! From the start, Cindy, who helped me select my schedule and walked me through the booking process, was very professional and responsive to all my queries. The tour itself was amazing. My guide, Dorji, and driver, Momla, were both fantastic. I had booked a group tour but was the only one who signed up for those dates so it ended up kind of being a private tour, which was pretty lucky. Dorji was an enthusiastic and attentive guide who was very knowledgeable about the religious and historic sites we visited, without being boring nor overbearing. He also made sure I had everything I needed and was always quick to offer alternative activities if the day ended earlier than expected. I can't rave enough about Momla's driving skills, especially because the roads in Bhutan are pretty swervey and it's crazy how good at navigating he was.Bhutan is such a beautiful country and definitely worth it. Very happy with the experience Asia Odyssey offered me and would not hesitate to do it again sometime in the future. read more

I highly recommend Asia Odyssey Travel. We booked a 10 day tour in Yunnan (Kunming, Dali, Shaxi, Lijiang, and Shangri-La) through them working with Wendy Deng. Wendy was terrific in devising an itinerary that enabled us to see the main natural attractions while avoiding large groups of tourists.  She was also very responsive to our emails both before and during the trip. The local guides at each city or village were excellent. They were very knowledgeable and flexible to accommodate our desire to avoid large crowds.   read more
