Key Takeaways

  • 12 Maps to Guide You: This article covers every step of your journey with - Location, Islands, Beaches, Cities & Airports, Tourist Spots, Travel Routes, Transport Routes.
  • Two Main Hubs: You’ll likely land in Manila or Cebu. Landing in Cebu is often faster and easier than Manila for reaching the best beaches.
  • Fly, Don't Float: For long distances, domestic flights (like El Nido to Boracay) are better. Save the ferries for short island hops (like Cebu to Bohol).
  • Less is More: For a 10–12 day trip, stick to a maximum of 3 main regions. The Philippines is huge—trying to see 5+ islands in two weeks usually means you'll spend more time on a plane than on the beach.
  • Dry is Best: Plan your visit between December and April for the best weather and calmest seas. If you surf, come between June to November.

Philippines Location in Southeast Asia

Where in the world is this paradise? This Philippines Location Map will help us see where the Philippines is settled.

First off, look at the Philippines on a world map. We're in the western part of the Pacific Ocean. Think of it as being on the eastern edge of Asia. We're an archipelago, a collection of 7,641 islands.

Now, zooming in to Southeast Asia, you'll find the Philippines right at the top! We're north of Indonesia and Borneo, east of Vietnam, and south of Taiwan (China).

Philippines Islands Map: 7,641 Islands, 9 Most Beautiful Ones

Philippines Islands Map

The Philippines is a vast archipelago of 7,641 islands! I know, it sounds like a lot, but don't worry—you don't need to see them all to have the trip of a lifetime.

To make it easy, we’ve grouped into 3 major geographical regions: Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

Our Map of Philippines Islands highlights not only the world-famous spots like Palawan (El Nido & Coron), Boracay, Cebu, Bohol, and Siargao, but also features unique gems like Siquijor, Malapascua, and Camiguin.

As you can see on the map, up north in Luzon, you’ve got the jaw-dropping limestone lagoons of Palawan (El Nido & Coron).

In the heart of the country, you’ll find the Visayas—this is where those "white sand" dreams come true in Boracay, Cebu, and Bohol. It’s also home to the "Island of Witches," Siquijor, and the tiny diving haven of Malapascua.

Finally, down south in Mindanao, you’ll find the surf breaks of Siargao and the incredible volcanic landscapes of Camiguin.

To help you "anchor" these names to the right regions, I’ve put together this quick cheat sheet:

Region Luzon (The North) The Visayas (The Heart) Mindanao (The South)
The Vibe Culture, Lagoons & Diving Beaches & Diving Surfing & Volcanic Nature
Famous Spots Palawan (El Nido & Coron) Boracay, Cebu & Bohol Siargao
Hidden Gems Batanes Siquijor & Malapascua Camiguin
Best For Adventure & History Island Hopping & Diving Nature Lovers & Surfers
Tips
  • You’ll notice that Palawan (home to El Nido and Coron) is technically part of the Luzon group, but it feels like its own world!
  • If you're short on time, I usually suggest picking one region and diving deep. For example, you can easily pair Cebu and Bohol together because they are just a quick 2-hour ferry apart.

Philippines Beaches Map: Where to Find Sun, Sand & Secret Spots?

Philippines Beaches Map
Philippines Beaches Map

When it comes to the beaches in Philippines, you’ve probably heard of Boracay’s White Beach—it’s famous for a reason!

The sand here feels like powdered sugar. It’s the perfect spot to grab a cocktail and watch the paraws (traditional sailboats) glide by.

But don't stop there! For my adventure-seekers, I always point you toward the Palawan section of the Philippines Beaches Map.

I’ve had some of my best naps on the hidden shores of El Nido and Coron. Some of them are tucked away behind massive limestone cliffs. You’ll often have to kayak through a small hole in a rock just to find a "secret" beach!

And if you want to catch a wave, just follow the map all the way east to Siargao, our surfing capital where the vibe is always laid-back and local.

Which beach is your perfect march? Check out the table to pick your winner:

Beach Name Location Best For... Best Time Local Secret
White Beach Boracay Sunsets & Nightlife Dec – May (Dry Season) Station 3 is the quietest spot for a nap.
Nacpan Beach El Nido Wide Golden Sands Jan – April (Peak Sun) Rent a scooter to get here for a "wilder" feel.
Banul Beach Coron Lunch & Photogenic Cliffs Dec – May Part of Coron Island Hopping Tour B.
Seven Commandos El Nido Snorkeling & Buko Juice Nov – May A popular stop on El Nido Island-hopping Tour A.
Alona Beach Bohol Diving & Dining Dec – June Great jumping-off point for Balicasag Island.
Cloud 9 Siargao World-Class Surfing Aug – Nov (Surf Season) Even if you don't surf, the boardwalk is iconic.
Hidden Beach El Nido Secluded Adventure Dec – April You have to swim through a limestone gap to find it!
Tips
  • You’ll notice that while most of the country is in 'Summer mode' from March to May, Siargao is a bit of a rebel! Its best surfing swells actually arrive later in the year from June to November.
  • If you're a sun-seeker, stick to the West (Palawan/Boracay) in the early months from December to May.

Philippines Cities & Airports Map: Your Gateways to Paradise

Philippines Cities & Airports Map
Philippines Cities & Airports Map

While the islands get all the glory, the cities are the heartbeats of your trip. By looking at the combined Philippines Cities & Airports Map now, you can spot the closest city to your dream island and beach.

While Manila (MNL), Cebu (CEB), and Davao (DVO) handle overseas arrivals, popular spots like El Nido (ENI), Siargao (IAO), and Bohol (TAG) primarily serve domestic flights. To reach these islands, you’ll usually transit through a major city hub first!

Look at the table to plan your connection strategy:

City Hub Primary Gateway To... Airport Code Flight Status Connection Tip
Manila Palawan & North Luzon MNL International The busiest hub; allow at least 3 hours for layovers.
Cebu City The Visayas & Siargao CEB International Often the fastest way to reach the central islands.
Davao City Mt. Apo & Samal Island DVO International Great for flights from Singapore, HK, or Gulf hubs.
Clark North Luzon & Surf Spots CRK International A stress-free alternative to landing in Manila.
Boracay White Beach & Nightlife MPH / KLO International* Fly into MPH for speed, or KLO for better flight deals.
Puerto Princesa Central Palawan PPS Domestic The main entry point for the Underground River.
El Nido Bacuit Bay Lagoons ENI Domestic Best reached via AirSwift from Manila or Cebu.
Coron Shipwrecks & Lakes USU Domestic Usually a 1-hour flight from Manila.
Bohol (Panglao) Chocolate Hills & Tarsiers TAG Domestic Fly in from Manila or take the 2-hour ferry from Cebu.
Siargao Cloud 9 & Surfing IAO Domestic Most flights connect through Cebu or Manila.
Tips
  • If you want to save time, look for 'Open-Jaw' flights! For example, you can fly International into Manila, explore Palawan, and then fly International out of Cebu. This way, you don't have to backtrack to the capital at the end of your trip!
  • Also, keep in mind that for domestic-only spots like Siargao or El Nido, the planes are smaller, so keep an eye on your luggage weight—those island planes can be quite picky!
  • Kalibo (KLO) serves international flights from hubs like Seoul and Shanghai, while Caticlan (MPH) is primarily domestic but much closer to the island.
  • To get to El Nido or Coron, you can fly to Puerto Princesa first. And from there, for example, take a van to El Nido, a 5-6 hours’ ride.

First, our well-planned travel map balances 3–5 days in major island hubs like El Nido or Boracay with shorter 1–2 day "gateway" stops in cities like Cebu or Manila.

A truly surreal experience. Ashgabat is bizarre with its empty white marble streets and strict rules, but fascinating to see. The highlight was obviously the Darvaza Gas Crater. The drive across the desert was bumpy and long, but arriving at the 'Gates of Hell' at night was spectacular. Sleeping in a yurt nearby was cold but worth it for the view. Be prepared for very basic toilets in the desert, but our guide handled the logistics perfectly. read more

I had never tried oyster omelets or stinky tofu anywhere before. This trip was a total food adventure! Fortunately, they tasted good. Thanks to my consultant and guide's local hacks, my family enjoyed a good appetite at night markets in Kaohsiung and Tainan.
