Day 2 Giza Tour | Giza Pyramids Complex, Great Pyramid, Great Sphinx, Valley Temple, Grand Egyptian Museum, Optional: Sound & Light Show

After breakfast, it is time to drive to Giza for an amazing day for ancient wonders of Egypt. 30-minute drive takes you to the Giza Plateau.

Upon arrival, your Egyptologist guide will unveil the history and mysteries of the three iconic pyramids: Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure. These structures stand as the only surviving wonder of the ancient world. You will enjoy some free time to explore, with the option to step inside a pyramid's burial chamber (optional; guides are not permitted inside).

Next, you will drive across the plateau to a panoramic viewpoint. This is the perfect spot to photograph all three pyramids rising from the desert sands against the distant Cairo skyline.

Then, visit the Valley Temple of Khafre, an ancient site adjacent to the Great Sphinx. It was historically used for the purification and mummification rituals of the pharaoh before burial.

A short drive to the edge of the plateau brings you to the feet of the Great Sphinx. This legendary monument measures 190 feet long and 65 feet high. Carved from a single massive block of limestone, it features the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh, standing as a loyal guardian over the royal tombs.

After exploring Giza, you can head directly to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). The Grand Egyptian Museum is the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization. It brings 5,000 years of history to life through more than 100,000 incredible artifacts. As you walk in, you are greeted by a colossal statue of Ramesses II before exploring 12 massive exhibition halls. The absolute highlight is King Tutankhamun’s complete tomb collection. For the first time since its 1920s discovery, his golden mask, inner coffins, royal thrones, and the ancient Khufu Solar Boat are all fully displayed together in one place.

iOptional Experiences (at Your own Expense or Tell us your like in advance):
  1. Camel Ride: Ride a camel to the panoramic viewpoint for the perfect photo opportunity of all three Giza Pyramids. (Duration: Approximately 20–30 minutes)
  2. Sound and Light Show (19:00–20:00, 1 hour): Experience the pyramids in a completely different light. This outdoor performance uses powerful lighting, laser effects, and surround sound to project the history of Ancient Egypt directly onto the pyramids and the Sphinx. Let the Sphinx guide you through the legendary stories of the Pharaohs under the night sky. (Note: Show times are subject to change.)

After that, drive back to Cairo for accommodation.

Day 3 Trace the Origins of the Pyramid Age | The Step Pyramid of Djoser, Memphis Open-Air Museum, Dahshur Pyramids

After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up for a journey south of Cairo. A short drive (32km, 1 hour) brings us away from the city bustle to Saqqara, the true birthplace of the pyramid age.

While the Giza Pyramids represent the pinnacle of ancient engineering, Saqqara is where it all began. This is the site of the world’s first major stone structure, marking the dawn of an era that would eventually create the wonders of the world.

First Stop: The Step Pyramid of Djoser

Built over a century before the Great Pyramids of Giza, this architectural marvel was commissioned by Pharaoh Djoser and designed by the legendary architect Imhotep. It stands as the true prototype for all the pyramids that followed.

  • Walk through the restored Entrance Colonnadeto witness the fascinating transition from traditional mud-brick construction to monumental stone masonry - a pivotal moment in human history.
  • Stand before the iconic six-tiered "mastaba" design. You will see how the ancient builders stacked these rectangular tombs to reach toward the sky.
  • Venture into the heart of the complex to explore the deep burial chambers, where you can touch the raw, ancient stone and feel the weight of nearly 5,000 years of history.

Second Stop: Memphis Open-Air Museum

Next, we will continue to the Memphis Open-Air Museum, about 7 km away. More than 5,000 years ago, Memphis was where ancient Egypt first unified into one kingdom, becoming one of the world’s earliest capitals. Today, you are walking through the remains of that very first capital of a great civilization.

Here, you will see the Colossus of Ramses II, a massive statue about 13 meters long. It is the highlight of the site and one of the closest encounters you can have with an ancient Egyptian pharaoh. Standing beside it, you can truly feel the scale and power of ancient Egypt’s royal legacy. You will also see the Alabaster Sphinx, carved from a single block of stone. Unlike the limestone Sphinx at Giza, it has a softer, glowing texture under sunlight, showing a very different artistic style. We will also visit the Temple of Ptah, once the most sacred religious center of Memphis, dedicated to the creator god worshipped by the ancient Egyptians.

Third Stop: Dahshur Pyramids

Later, we will drive to Dahshur Pyramids, home to two pyramids that show the evolution of ancient Egyptian pyramid building. First is the Bent Pyramid. During construction, engineers found the original steep angle of about 54 degrees was unstable, so they adjusted it midway to 43 degrees. This sudden change created its unique “bent” shape, making it one of the most unusual pyramids in Egypt.

Then we continue to the Red Pyramid, named for its distinctive reddish limestone, which glows warmly in the early morning and sunset light. It is considered the first successful true smooth-sided pyramid in history. Here, you will have the special experience of walking down a long sloping passage into the pyramid itself.

After the tour, be transferred back to Cairo for accommodation.

Day 4 Cairo Flight to Aswan & Nile River Cruise Embarkation (B, L, D) | Aswan Highlights: High Dam, Philae Temple, the Unfinished Obelisk

On this day, you will be transferred to the Cairo Airport for your morning flight to Aswan (1h 20m).

Upon your arrival in Aswan, your local Egyptologist guide will meet you at the airport to begin your 4 days 3 nights luxury Nile cruise (5 star).

Your journey starts this afternoon as we explore the highlights of Aswan:

First, we drive to the Aswan High Dam. Often called the "Second Pyramid" of Egypt, this massive feat of modern engineering tamed the mighty Nile and created Lake Nasser, one of the world’s largest artificial reservoirs. From the observation deck, you’ll get a panoramic view of the dam’s 3.6-kilometer span and the striking contrast between the vast, still reservoir and the flowing river below.

Next, we take a short boat ride to the Philae Temple, widely known as the "Pearl of the Nile." This temple is a stunning blend of Ancient Egyptian and Greco-Roman architecture. Built in the 4th century BC as a home for the Goddess Isis, it is one of the most romantic and beautifully preserved sites in Egypt. The temple has a fascinating history - it was meticulously moved stone-by-stone to its current island home to save it from the rising waters of the Nile. As you walk through the complex, you’ll see the Temple of Isis, Hadrian’s Gate, and the iconic Kiosk of Trajan, with its elegant columns perfectly reflected in the water.

Finally, we visit the Unfinished Obelisk. This is a fascinating look into the past - it’s the largest single piece of stone ever carved by humans. Commissioned by Queen Hatshepsut 3,500 years ago, it offers a rare glimpse into ancient construction techniques. Had it been completed, it would have stood 42 meters tall (as high as a 14-story building) and weighed an incredible 1,200 tons. You can still see the cracks that forced the ancient builders to abandon it, leaving it as a permanent monument to their ambition.

After the tour, you will be transferred to your deluxe cruise ship to check in. Enjoy a relaxing lunch and dinner on board as you settle in for your first night on the Nile.

If you arrive late in this morning, we will arrange Aswan tour in this afternoon.

Day 5 Nile River Cruise (B, L, D) | Kom Ombo Temple, Optional Tour to Abu Simbel Temples

On this day, enjoy breakfast onboard your Nile cruise in Aswan.

iOptional Morning Excursion: Abu Simbel Temples

For those seeking a deeper experience, an optional early morning excursion to the magnificent Abu Simbel Temples is available. Depart around 4:00 AM with a boxed breakfast and travel by private air-conditioned vehicle through the desert to one of Egypt’s most iconic monuments.

Upon arrival, explore the UNESCO-listed Nubian Monuments of Abu Simbel, carved into the mountainside in the 13th century BC during the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II. Built to honor himself and Queen Nefertari, the temples commemorate his victory at the Battle of Kadesh and stand as a powerful symbol of ancient Egyptian ambition and artistry.

To protect them from rising waters after the creation of Lake Nasser, the entire complex was carefully relocated in 1968 and reconstructed on higher ground—an extraordinary feat of modern engineering.

Stand before the four colossal statues of Ramesses II at the entrance as your Egyptologist guide shares the history and rediscovery of the site. Due to local regulations, guiding inside the temples is not permitted, allowing you to explore the interiors at your own pace.

Step inside the rock-cut temple and admire the grand hypostyle hall with reliefs depicting Ramesses II’s military victories, followed by sacred chambers leading deep into the sanctuary, where the famous Solar Alignment occurs twice a year.

After the visit, drive back to Aswan and return to the cruise before 1:00 PM for lunch. The cruise then continues its sailing journey south along the Nile.

Kom Ombo Temple

In the afternoon, sail toward Kom Ombo and visit the uniquely designed Kom Ombo Temple, located just a short walk from the riverbank. Built during the Ptolemaic period around 180 BC, this remarkable temple is dedicated to two gods—Horus the Elder and Sobek.

As you explore its symmetrical layout, discover the northern side dedicated to Horus, the falcon god of protection and justice, and the southern side devoted to Sobek, the crocodile god associated with fertility and strength.

Your guide will highlight fascinating carvings on the temple walls, including ancient surgical instruments that reveal early medical knowledge, as well as a stone calendar marking Egypt’s three agricultural seasons: flooding, planting, and harvest.

Before leaving, visit the open-air courtyard to see the ancient well and the Crocodile Museum, where mummified crocodiles offer a rare glimpse into the religious significance of Sobek worship.

After the visit, return to the cruise and spend the rest of the day relaxing on deck as the ship continues its journey along the Nile. Enjoy dinner onboard and overnight on the cruise.

Day 6 Nile River Cruise (B, L, D) | Edfu Temple, Luxor Temple

After breakfast on board, we will take a short 3.5 km drive from the pier to the Temple of Edfu.

Morning: The "Textbook" Temple of Edfu

Often called the "textbook" of Egyptian architecture, this temple is a true marvel. Because it lay buried under desert sands for nearly two millennia, it remained hidden from the world until the 19th century. As a result, over 95% of the structure - from the soaring roof and towering columns to the secret inner chambers - is still perfectly intact.

Standing before the massive 36-meter-high entrance pylon, you will be dwarfed by the two imposing black granite statues of Horus, the falcon god, standing guard. As you walk through the temple, take a moment to look at the thick outer walls, which are covered in vivid reliefs depicting the epic battle between good and evil.

Inside, you’ll notice the ceiling is darkened - a fascinating scar from history when the temple was used as a shelter by early inhabitants. Your guide will lead you through the hidden chambers, including the ancient "perfume laboratory" where priests once crafted sacred scents, and walk you through the corridor reliefs that vividly tell the story of Horus defeating the forces of chaos.

Esna Lock Crossing:

Today, your Nile cruise passes through the fascinating Esna Lock, an important waterway between Luxor and Edfu. Get on the sundeck and watch as the ship enters the lock chamber enjoy this unique engineering experience. Tip: The passage usually takes 20-60 minutes, but may be longer if several ships are waiting.

Afternoon: Sailing to Luxor & Sunset at Luxor Temple

Spend the afternoon unwinding on the sundeck as we sail toward Luxor, watching the lush Nile banks drift by.

Upon our arrival in Luxor, we head to the Luxor Temple at the perfect time - just before sunset. Arriving during the "golden hour" is an unforgettable experience. You can stand in awe before the towering statues of Ramesses II and the monumental pink granite obelisk, watching the soft, angled light bring out the intricate details of the ancient carvings that have guarded this sanctuary for centuries.

As the daytime heat fades, you will stroll down the famous Avenue of Sphinxes. The long shadows cast by the setting sun give the giant pharaonic columns a dramatic, imposing presence, making the history of these ancient kings feel incredibly real.

After the tour, we will return to your cruise ship and enjoy dinner on board.

Overnight on board in Luxor.

Day 7 Nile River Cruise Disembarkation (B) & Drive to Hurghada | Luxor Highlights: Valley of the Kings, Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Colossi of Memnon, Karnak Temple

After breakfast, check out from your Nile River cruise (between 08:00 and 09:00) and meet your private guide to begin your final day exploring Luxor.

West Bank: Into the Afterlife

We start our morning on the West Bank, the ancient "City of the Dead." Our first stop is the Valley of the Kings. Tucked away in a hidden desert valley beneath the Al-Qurn peak, this was the secret burial ground for New Kingdom pharaohs. Your guide will take you inside three of the most impressive tombs, where you can walk through corridors still vibrant with 3,000-year-old paintings. Seeing the vivid reds, yellows, and blues of the afterlife scenes is a truly surreal experience.

(Note: If you wish to visit the special tombs of Tutankhamun, Seti I, or Ramesses VI, your guide can assist with purchasing those extra tickets on-site.)

Next, we visit the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut. This is arguably the most photogenic site in Luxor. Built for Egypt’s most powerful female pharaoh, the temple is carved directly into the limestone cliffs, rising in three dramatic, elegant terraces. It feels less like a ruin and more like a work of modern architecture from the ancient world.

Before leaving the West Bank, we make a quick photo stop at the Colossi of Memnon. These two giant stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III have stood guard over the Theban plain for over 3,000 years—they are the perfect final image of the West Bank.

East Bank: The City of the Living

In this afternoon, we cross the Nile to the East Bank to explore the Karnak Temple Complex. This isn't just a temple; it’s the largest religious site ever built in the ancient world.

We begin our walk along the famous Avenue of Sphinxes, the ceremonial path that once linked the temples. As you pass through the monumental gateway, you’ll enter the Great Hypostyle Hall. Standing among these 134 massive sandstone columns is a "wow" moment—the central pillars soar over 21 meters high, creating a stone forest that makes you feel incredibly small.

Your guide will lead you through the sacred lakes, towering obelisks, and hidden chapels, sharing stories of the pharaohs who built this place over two millennia. It feels less like a museum and more like stepping back in time.

iTravel Note:

Daily sightseeing schedules may vary slightly depending on cruise operations.

Day 11 Islamic Cairo Tour | National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Coptic Cairo, Hanging Church, Saladin Citadel, Mosque of Muhammad Ali, Al-Muizz Street, Khan el-Khalili

After breakfast, you will spend full day uncovering the different layers of Cairo. Move from the grand narratives of the past to the quiet, spiritual corners of the city.

We begin at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. This isn't just a collection of artifacts; it is a timeline of Egypt. The undeniable highlight is the Royal Mummies Hall, where you will come face-to-face with the legendary rulers of Egypt, including Ramses II, Hatshepsut, and Seti I. Seeing these pharaohs in person is a profound, unforgettable experience. Afterward, we will walk through the Chronological Exhibition, which beautifully maps out the evolution of Egyptian life from prehistoric times to the modern day.

Later, we head to Old Cairo (Coptic Cairo), a place that feels worlds away from the city’s bustle. This area is the cradle of Egyptian Christianity. Our main stop is the Hanging Church. It is a true architectural marvel, built atop the ancient Roman Babylon Fortress. Because it sits suspended above the fortress gate, it appears to "hang" in the air. You will have time to explore the main sanctuary and admire the intricate, centuries-old wood carvings that make this church so special.

Afternoon: The Citadel & The Skyline

In this afternoon, our guide will take you to explore the Saladin Citadel, a fortress dating back to 1176. Commissioned by the legendary military leader Saladin, this stronghold has guarded Cairo for centuries.

You will visit the Mosque of Muhammad Ali. Often called the "Alabaster Mosque," its massive domes and twin minarets dominate the city skyline. The interior is a masterpiece of Ottoman design, offering a serene and visually striking atmosphere. Afterward, step out onto the Panorama Terrace. This is the best vantage point in the city; on a clear day, you can see all the way to the Giza Pyramids - a breathtaking contrast where the ancient desert meets the modern city.

The Heart of Islamic Cairo

Later, we move to Al-Muizz Street, the backbone of Islamic Cairo. Established in the 10th century during the Fatimid Dynasty, this is essentially a living, open-air museum. As you stroll down this historic street, you’ll be surrounded by centuries-old mosques, madrasas, and mausoleums - all standing amidst the vibrant, daily life of modern Egyptians.

The street naturally flows into the legendary Khan el-Khalili Bazaar. Dating back to the 14th century, this labyrinthine market is the beating heart of the city. Walking through its narrow alleys feels like stepping into a medieval city that never stopped breathing. We will pass by the famous El Fishawi Café, where you can pause to soak in the atmosphere, sip on a traditional mint tea, and experience the quintessential "Cairo slow life."

After the tour, be transferred back to your hotel in Cairo.

For a high-quality and comfortable vacation, we strongly recommend traveling by flight. However, we also provide an overnight sleeper train option for budget-conscious travelers. The final choice can be tailored based on real-time flight schedules and train timetables.

Feature Domestic Flight (Recommended) Overnight Sleeper Train (Budget Option)
Travel Time Approx. 1 hour (Fast & seamless) Approx. 10–12 hours (Long journey)

AOT's Take Best for maximizing your 5 days Cairo and Luxor tour. A solid alternative if you want to experience classic Egyptian rail or save on a hotel night.
Q2: Can this 5 days Cairo and Luxor tour be shortened to a 3 days Cairo and Luxor tour? +

Technically, yes—we can customize a compressed 3 days Cairo and Luxor tour featuring 2 days in Cairo and 1 intensive day in Luxor. However, we generally do not recommend it.

Compressing the trip means booking four domestic flights within just 72 hours, which makes the airfare-to-sightseeing ratio economically inefficient. You would spend too much time in airports, leaving little room to truly absorb the soul of ancient Egypt. A 5-day pace remains the sweet spot for a seamless, unhurried experience.

Q3: Is there a Cairo to Luxor Nile Cruise available? +

Over 90% of Egypt’s classic Nile Cruises operate exclusively between Luxor and Aswan, as the most iconic temples are concentrated along this southern stretch of the river.

If you wish to weave a cruise into your journey, we can seamlessly upgrade your itinerary in two ways:

Option A: Add a 4-day cruise from Luxor to Aswan following your Luxor tour.

Option B (Highly Recommended): Fly from Cairo to Aswan first, and then take an Aswan to Luxor cruise. Traveling from Aswan to Luxor is downstream, which saves a full day of sailing time. We intentionally reinvest this saved time into a richer Aswan tour, giving you the exclusive chance to sail on a traditional Felucca (Egyptian sailboat) at sunset.

Q4: Are there any hidden shopping stops or forced commentary during a day trip to Luxor from Cairo or multi-day tours? +

Never. AOT stands for pure, high-quality exploration. Whether you are joining us for a quick day trip to Luxor from Cairo or a comprehensive multi-day journey, all our itineraries are 100% shopping-free.

Your expert Egyptologist guide is there solely to unveil the rich history and mysteries of the Pharaohs at your own comfortable pace, without any commercial distractions.
