The UNESCO-listed Wulingyuan Scenic Area (武陵源景区) is famous for its rare quartz sandstone peaks. Comprised of four distinct regions, it ranks among China’s top destinations. This tour focuses on Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve.

Morning, visit Zhangjiajie National Forest Park to ride the world’s tallest outdoor lift, the Bailong Elevator. Reach the summit of Yuanjiajie to photograph the iconic Hallelujah Mountains from Avatar. (Route Tip: Stand on the far right for the absolute best views. If you miss it, simply wait for the next ride.)

(Route Tip: Watch for fossils along the mountain path. If you prefer to avoid heights, you can quickly step across the open-grate iron bridge.)

Next, explore Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve, named after a legendary Tujia leader. Known as the "King of Peaks," this "fairyland" was famously featured in Journey to the West. Marvel at the Imperial Writing Brush Peaks and the misty West Sea Peaks Forest from the Dianjiangtai Platform. • Elevation Gain:~−300 m (descending from glass bridge at ~700 m to canyon floor at ~400 m)
  • Physical Demand: ☆☆☆ — Mostly flat canyon boardwalks with some stairs; glass bridge crossing is thrilling but not strenuous. Not recommended for those with a fear of heights
  • Walking Distance:~4-6 km
  • Estimated Duration (incl. rest):~6 hours

Morning transfer to Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon for a walk across the Glass Bridge. Later, enjoy a boat ride on Baofeng Lake as a "Water Paradise," returning to Zhangjiajie City by late afternoon.

Visit Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon to experience the world’s premier glass-bottomed bridge. Suspended 300 meters high, this 375-meter engineering feat provides a transparent path over a stunning, mist-filled canyon. It is a top destination for adventurers, featuring the highest bungee jumping platform (Optional) on Earth. As you walk, the clear glass offers a spectacular "floating" sensation and panoramic views of the verdant landscape below.

Adventurous Route after the Glass Bridge: VR > Zip Line > One Line Sky Slide > Rainbow Lake Cruise > Light Trekking > Shenquan Lake Cruise (You can enjoy the full experience or selectively choose a few favorite activities.)

Cross the famous glass bridge, then soar virtually with a VR flight over Zhangjiajie. Next, brave the 358-meter-long zipline hanging 302 meters above the canyon, slide down the One Line Sky Slide, and enjoy a peaceful 10-minute cruise on Rainbow Lake. Finish your adventure with a refreshing canyon floor trek and a smooth boat ride to the exit.

Normal Route: VR > Descend via Elevator > Rainbow Lake Cruise

For guests who prefer to avoid high-adrenaline activities, you can comfortably take the elevator descent directly to the canyon floor.

After the thrills of the glass bridge, restore your peace at Baofeng Lake. A short shuttle ride leads to this crystal-clear alpine reservoir, nestled 72 meters deep within lush mountains. During a scenic wooden boat cruise, admire the mirror-like reflections of surrounding peaks and unique rock formations. The tranquil atmosphere is perfectly complemented by traditional folk songs performed by local minority people. (Travel Tip: The second floor of the wooden boat is the absolute best spot for panoramic photography.)

After the tour, return to Zhangjiajie City (35 kilometers, 1 hour drive) for an overnight stay.

Day 4 Zhangjiajie Departure | Tianmenshan National Forest Park, Tianmenshan Cable Car, Tianmen Cave, Glass Walkway

Notice: The section of the Tianmen Mountain Cableway from the Middle Station to the peak is temporarily closed for maintenance. We’ve put together a great alternative itinerary.

  • Route: Cableway Lower Station > Cableway Middle Station > 99-Bend Road > Tianmen Cave > Glass Skywalk > Tianmen Cave (Lower Plaza) > Express Cableway to Exit
  • Half Cable Car Duration: 10-12 minutes.
  • Altitude & Cave Dimensions:~1,300 m | Cave opening: 131.5 m high, 50 m wide.
  • Physical Demand: ☆ Easy (Fully aided by the cable car and mountain escalators. Upgraded to ☆☆☆ Moderate if you challenge the 999 steps beneath Tianmen Cave.)

Today, explore Tianmen Mountain, the "Soul of Zhangjiajie," on a convenient half-day tour. Located just 8km from the city, this accessible park features the world's longest cable car (7,455m), whisking you straight to the summit. Ideal for all ages, the mountain requires minimal climbing; even the famous Tianmen Cave staircase can be bypassed using an available elevator.

First, board the 12-minute cable car (4,613m) from the Cableway Lower Station in Zhangjiajie City up to the Cableway Middle Station, enjoying panoramic views of the breathtaking bonsai gardens below.

At the Cableway Middle Station, transfer to an environmental bus along the 99-Bend Road, a winding mountain road that snakes dramatically up the cliffside.

Next, ascend by escalator to Tianmen Cave, a 131-meter-high natural window in the mountain. Known for its ethereal atmosphere and ever-shifting shadows, it is a photographer's paradise. (Travel Tip: You can also take the 999 steps up if you prefer a challenge.)

After the cave, experience the thrill of the 1,430-meter-high Glass Walkway, then continue along the scenic Cliff-Hanging Path for sweeping views of the mountain's edge.

You then have the option to explore the serene Tianmen Temple, nestled in lush forest, before heading to Yunmenxianding — the mountain's highest point at 1,518 meters — for breathtaking panoramic views.

Afterward, take the elevator down from the mountaintop to the Tianmen Cave Lower Plaza, then board the Express Cableway back to the exit.
