Welcome to Zhangjiajie! To ensure a smooth start to your journey, our team will pick you up directly from the airport and escort you to your hotel in Wulingyuan. Once settled, you are free to spend the rest of day as you wish.
Visit Xibu Old Street (溪布街) to admire traditional Tujia architecture and heritage. This bustling pedestrian hub, named after local handwoven textiles, offers a mix of folk workshops, bars, and unique shopping. As the street lights up at night, enjoy a taste of West Hunan with snacks like Frog Cake while exploring a variety of handmade ethnic crafts and clothing.
Getting to Zhangjiajie:
Reaching Zhangjiajie is convenient, with Hehua Airport offering direct flights from major hubs like Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, and Guangzhou. Alternatively, the high-speed rail network connects the city to Fenghuang (1h), Changsha (2–4h), and even longer routes from Shanghai (9 hours) or Beijing Beijing (11 hours).
The UNESCO-listed Wulingyuan Scenic Area (武陵源景区) is famous for its rare quartz sandstone peaks. Comprised of four distinct regions, it ranks among China’s top destinations. This tour focuses on Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve.
Morning, visit Zhangjiajie National Forest Park to ride the world’s tallest outdoor lift, the Bailong Elevator. Reach the summit of Yuanjiajie to photograph the iconic Hallelujah Mountains from Avatar. (Route Tip: Stand on the far right for the absolute best views. Follow the scenic precipice trail to the Lost Soul Platform and the Backyard Garden, where you can immerse yourself in a majestic landscape of vertical stone pillars and ancient natural bridges. Next, explore Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve, named after a legendary Tujia leader. Known as the "King of Peaks," this "fairyland" was famously featured in Journey to the West. Marvel at the Imperial Writing Brush Peaks and the misty West Sea Peaks Forest from the Dianjiangtai Platform. Cross the famous glass bridge, then soar virtually with a VR flight over Zhangjiajie. After the thrills of the glass bridge, restore your peace at Baofeng Lake. A short shuttle ride leads to this crystal-clear alpine reservoir, nestled 72 meters deep within lush mountains. During a scenic wooden boat cruise, admire the mirror-like reflections of surrounding peaks and unique rock formations. The tranquil atmosphere is perfectly complemented by traditional folk songs performed by local minority people. (Travel Tip: The second floor of the wooden boat is the absolute best spot for panoramic photography.)
After the tour, return to Zhangjiajie City (35 kilometers, 1 hour drive) for an overnight stay.

Today, explore Tianmen Mountain, the "Soul of Zhangjiajie," on a convenient half-day tour. Located just 8km from the city, this accessible park features the world's longest cable car (7,455m), whisking you straight to the summit. Ideal for all ages, the mountain requires minimal climbing; even the famous Tianmen Cave staircase can be bypassed using an available elevator.
First, board the 12-minute cable car (4,613m) from the Cableway Lower Station in Zhangjiajie City up to the Cableway Middle Station, enjoying panoramic views of the breathtaking bonsai gardens below.
At the Cableway Middle Station, transfer to an environmental bus along the 99-Bend Road, a winding mountain road that snakes dramatically up the cliffside.
Next, ascend by escalator to Tianmen Cave, a 131-meter-high natural window in the mountain. Known for its ethereal atmosphere and ever-shifting shadows, it is a photographer's paradise. (Travel Tip: You can also take the 999 steps up if you prefer a challenge.)
After the cave, experience the thrill of the 1,430-meter-high Glass Walkway, then continue along the scenic Cliff-Hanging Path for sweeping views of the mountain's edge.
You then have the option to explore the serene Tianmen Temple, nestled in lush forest, before heading to Yunmenxianding — the mountain's highest point at 1,518 meters — for breathtaking panoramic views.

My friend and I signed up for Asia Odyssey’s 15 day China Dream small group tour and added a one day private tour of Suzhou and Tongli. The tour included visits to Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, Guilin, Zhangjiajie National Park, and Shanghai. Accommodations were in clean, comfortable three and four star hotels.
Our travel counselor Donnie Li was extremely helpful in making all the arrangements and answering all our questions. At each destination, we had friendly, informative guides to show us the highlights. All the logistics were well-organized.
Overall, I was very pleased with the tour and would definitely go on another tour with this company. I highly recommend Asia Odyssey for any tour of the continent you may be considering.
My wife and I chose Yangzi Explorer because we wanted a quieter and more upscale Yangtze cruise. Asia Odyssey Travel recommended it, and their advice was spot on.
The ship felt refined rather than flashy. There were fewer passengers than on many big cruise ships, which made the experience more personal. Our suite was large, clean, and had a proper balcony. Sitting there with tea while passing through Wu Gorge was a real highlight.
The guides spoke good English and gave useful background without talking too much. Shore excursions were well organized. We also appreciated that the pace was not rushed.
The only small downside was that some evening entertainment was simple, but honestly, we came for the scenery and comfort. Overall, a wonderful experience and a very smooth booking with Asia Odyssey Travel.

My husband and I joined Yangtze Miracle as part of our China holiday arranged by Asia Odyssey Travel. Our trip included Zhangjiajie, Chongqing, the Yangtze cruise, and Shanghai.
The cruise was a nice change of pace after several days of walking. Yangtze Miracle was comfortable and had a lively but not noisy atmosphere. Our balcony cabin was clean and had a good view.
Food was mainly Chinese with some Western choices. We enjoyed trying local flavors. Asia Odyssey Travel arranged everything smoothly, including the transfer to the pier. It was a very satisfying experience.
I usually travel independently, but for the Yangtze River I decided to use Asia Odyssey Travel. That was a good decision. They arranged the cruise, transfers, and all details clearly.
Yangzi Explorer is more expensive than many other Yangtze ships, but the quality is obvious. The cabin was very spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was excellent. The ship was quiet and never felt crowded.
The crew were professional and friendly. English service was good, which made the trip easier for me as a solo traveler. I also met other international guests during meals and excursions.
If you want a peaceful and higher-end Yangtze cruise, Yangzi Explorer is a very good choice.
I was not sure what to expect from a Yangtze River cruise, but Victoria Isabella was better than I imagined. We booked with Asia Odyssey Travel after comparing several options.
The boarding process in Chongqing was a little busy, but the instructions from our travel consultant were very clear. Once on board, everything became easy. Our cabin was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the balcony was lovely.
The ship is not a luxury boutique ship, so do not expect that style. But for the price, service, views, and itinerary, it was very good. I would recommend it to travelers who want a comfortable and affordable Yangtze cruise.
