Seating | Cost (¥) | Best for | Facilities |
---|---|---|---|
Second Class | 200-230 | Short trips (< 3h), budget travelers | 5 seats per row in a 3+2 layout (ABC together, DF together). The seats recline a bit (about 30°). |
First Class | 350-370 | Medium to longer trips (3-5h), comfort & value seekers | 4 seats per row in a 2+2 layout (A and F are window, C and D are aisle). More legroom (1.1 m) and the seats recline further (140°). |
Business Class | 630-720 | Travelers who want privacy or need a good rest | 1+1 or 2+1 layout, with A and F as window seats and C on the aisle. Seats can recline into a flatbed (180°!). Free meals. |
Now, for picking the perfect spot for your Kunming to Guiyang train tour:
For the best views: Grab a window seat (A or F) on an even-numbered row – the window is often a bit wider there, great for snapping photos of the passing scenery!
For easy movement: If you plan on getting up and about, an aisle seat (C or D) is your best friend.
Traveling as a couple or with a friend: In Second Class, go for the DF pair. In First Class, aim for the AC pair.
Traveling with kids: The front row (ABC in Second Class) is usually ideal as there's often more space for strollers and little ones.
For business travelers: Business Class seats in odd-numbered rows often have better placement of power outlets and tray tables for working.

Kunming South or Kunming Station, How to Choose?
- Kunming South Station (Highly Recommended: ★★★★★)
This is where almost all (around 95%) of the high-speed Kunming to Guiyang trains depart. It's super convenient to get to as it's directly connected by Metro Line 2.
- Kunming Station (Recommended: ★★★)
This station is right in the city center, close to attractions like Nanping Pedestrian Street (南屏步行街), which is great if you're spending time exploring downtown Kunming beforehand.
However, there are fewer high-speed trains to Guiyang from here.

Similarly, Guiyang has two main stations for our arrival: Guiyang North Station and Guiyang East Station.

Guiyang North or Guiyang East Station, How to Choose?
Guiyang North Station (Highly Recommended: ★★★★★)

We'd only recommend this station if you're specifically heading to Longdongbao Airport (龙洞堡机场) or the hot spring hotels in the Wudang District (乌当区).
Otherwise, transportation to the city center and other attractions isn't as convenient from here.
