Tainan Food Map
Tainan Food Map

This is the most important map we're going to look at. Tainan is famously called Taiwan's "Food Capital," and for good reason. Explore Taiwan's vibrant night markets on the Taiwan Food Tour
by Asia Odyssey Travel.

Let's pinpoint exactly where you need to go to eat. We'll start with the famous night markets and then find the specific snack stalls that even the prestigious Michelin Guide has recognized.

Tainan's Famous Night Markets

Garden Night Market (花園夜市): This is the biggest and most famous night market in Tainan, and arguably one of the most famous in all of Taiwan. It's a massive open-air square packed with hundreds of food and game stalls. It's an absolute must-do experience.

Dadong Night Market (大東夜市): Now, shift your eyes to the East District, near the universities. This one is extremely popular with locals and students. It has a fantastic variety of food and a very lively, authentic atmosphere.

Wusheng Night Market (武聖夜市): This is the oldest night market in Tainan. It has a very traditional feel and is a bit more spacious than the others, giving you more room to browse.

Now for the really special part. The Michelin Guide awarded its "Bib Gourmand" status (recognizing great food at affordable prices) to many of Tainan's small, local eateries. Most of them are, unsurprisingly, located right in the West Central District, making it easy to create a food tour on foot.

Let me show you exactly where Tainan's main transportation hubs sit on this Tainan transportation map and how to reach the city center from each one.

Tainan Railway Station (Most Recommended)

Tainan Railway Station sits in East District, about 2.5 kilometers east of the historic city center. This is your most convenient arrival point. From here, you can reach West Central District's main attractions in 15-20 minutes by city bus or taxi.

Tainan Airport

Tainan Airport is located much further south in South District, about 8 kilometers from the city center. Getting to the historic area takes 25-30 minutes by taxi.

The airport is quite small and mainly serves domestic flights to Taipei and some charter flights. Public bus connections exist but take longer with transfers.

Tainan HSR Station (Tainangaotie Station)

Tainan High Speed Rail Station sits way outside the main city in Gueiren District, roughly 15 kilometers northeast of the city center. This creates the longest journey to downtown - about 30-40 minutes by taxi.

However, shuttle buses connect the HSR station to Tainan Railway Station every 15-20 minutes.
