Tongren is the gateway city to Fanjing Mountain. Whether you’re flying into Tongren Fenghuang Airport or arriving by high-speed train, getting to the mountain is relatively straightforward with a 1-2 hours overland journey.

Tongren Fenghuang Airport (TEN铜仁凤凰机场) is the closest airport to Fanjing Mountain, located about 90 km from the East Gate. Here's how you can get Fanjingshan from the airport:

  • Shuttle Van: About 5–2 hours, costs around ¥65 per person. Direct and comfortable.
  • Taxi or Private Car: Around ¥80–¥100 per person, takes roughly the same time.

For budget travelers: Take Bus #20 from the airport to Tongren Railway Station (about 1 hour, ¥3),Then catch a shuttle to Fanjingshan East Gate (¥35, about 1.5 hours).

Tip: If you arrive in the afternoon and can’t make it to the mountain the same day, consider staying overnight in Jiangkou County (~62 km) or Tongren City (~25 km) and head to the mountain the next morning.

Tongren Railway Station to Fanjingshan East Gate

Tongren Railway Station (铜仁站) is the closest train station to Fanjingshan, located 70 km from the East Gate.

By shuttle van: ¥35/person, ~1h10min (departures every hour from 07:00–19:00)

By taxi/private car: Cost ranges from ¥50–¥100 per person.

High-speed train connections: Guiyang (~2h), Changsha (~3h), Chongqing (~4h), Kaili (~1h20min), Kunming (~4.5h), Chengdu (~5h)

Note: This is the most convenient train station for accessing Fanjing Mountain.

Tongren South Railway Station to Fanjingshan

Located in Yuping County, Tongren South Station (铜仁南站) is about 100 km south of the mountain.

  • Direct Shuttle Buses: 4 daily departures (9:30, 11:30, 13:30, 15:30), cost ¥60, travel time 5 hours.
  • Taxi/Private Car: Around ¥90–¥150 per person.

Tip: Try to arrive at Tongren Railway Station, which is closer and offers more transportation options. Most trains stopping at Tongren South also stop at Tongren Station.

Zhusha Old Town (Zhushaguzhen) Railway Station to Fanjingshan

Zhushaguzhen Station (朱砂古镇站) lies between Tongren Station and Tongren South Station, about 85 km from the East Gate.

Transport options: No public transport available. Only taxi or private car.

About Zhushaguzhen: Once a major mercury mining town during the 1960s–70s, it now offers a glimpse into industrial heritage, including a 970-meter-long underground mining tunnel open for visitors.

Staying in Zhongnanmen Ancient Town? You’re just 70 km or 1.5 hours by car from the mountain.

About Zhongnanmen: A free and vibrant historical area in central Tongren. Known for its matcha-themed street market, traditional architecture, and street food. Most hotels in Tongren are located in or near this district, making it a good base for travelers who want a mix of history and nature in their itinerary.

Tongren to Fanjingshan West Gate (Huguo Temple) for Hiking

While most travelers use the East Gate for entering Fanjing Mountain due to the availability of cable cars and better-developed tourist services, the West Gate, also known as the Huguo Temple Entrance, offers a more serene, off-the-beaten-path experience—ideal for hikers and nature lovers seeking a quieter, more immersive journey.

The distance between Tongren City and West Gate is about 120km, 2-2.5 hours by road. There is limited public transportation and a private car or taxi is most convenient.

Note: The West Gate is less touristy and has no cable car access. It’s ideal for hikers who want to enjoy a quieter, more scenic trail with views of the Sleeping Buddha mountain ridge. The trail is gentler than the East Gate route but still takes effort for about 4-5 hours.
