There are two main ways to enter Bhutan: by air or by land—and each offers its own kind of adventure.

By Air: Bhutan Airlines Route Map

Paro Airport is the only international airport in Bhutan. Flights arrive from Bangkok, Delhi, Kathmandu, Singapore, and a few other cities.

Airlines: Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines. Both offer a smooth ride—and unbeatable views of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest on clear days!

By Land: Overland Entry Points

Land borders are mainly open for Indian travelers or those touring overland from India. There are three official entry points:

  • Phuentsholing (near Jaigaon, West Bengal) – most commonly used
  • Samdrup Jongkhar (connects to Assam) – ideal for eastern Bhutan tours
  • Gelephu (connects to Assam and West Bengal) – less used, but scenic

While land entry is less common for foreign tourists, we can help to arrange private car transfers, cross-border pickups, and full overland itineraries on request!

Do You Need a Visa to Enter Bhutan?

Yes—all foreign tourists (except Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian citizens) need a Bhutan visa, which must be applied for in advance through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator (like us!).
