10 Days in South Korea Itinerary: Seoul, Gyeongju, Busan & Jeju Route (2026)

10 days is the sweet spot for South Korea. Less, and you're choosing between Seoul and the south. More, and most travelers start losing momentum around day twelve.

This 10-day itinerary in South Korea covers the four destinations that matter — Seoul, Andong/Gyeongju, Busan, and Jeju — with the routing logic, transport math, and on-the-ground pacing dialed in for first-time visitors.

Everything below 10 days South Korea Itinerary is built around a single principle: minimize hotel changes, eliminate backtracking, and front-load the cultural depth before the beach days on Jeju.

4 Key Takeaways

  • Ten days feels generous until you try to cram in eight cities. Anchor on two or three hubs — add Gyeongju or Andong, then stop.
  • The classic 10-days South Korea itinerary: Seoul – Andong – Gyeongju – Busan - Jeju
  • Use Seoul as both the launch point and safety buffer. Start there to recover from the flight, and end there if your international flight leaves from ICN.
  • Download Naver Map and Kakao T before you fly. Google Maps barely works here.

Why Seoul → Gyeongju → Busan → Jeju Works Best

Incheon (ICN) offers the most frequent and cost-effective global flights, establishing it as the essential starting gateway.

For global travelers, finishing back in Seoul allows you to save heavy shopping for the final days, completely avoiding domestic luggage nightmares on trains or planes.

onversely, Southeast Asian and Chinese tourists can skip the return trip entirely by flying straight home from Busan or Jeju. You should only reverse this route and start south if you are a regional traveler craving an immediate resort vibe right after landing.

How Many Nights in Each Place?

  • Seoul: 3 Nights at the Start + 1 Night at the EndUse the first stay for palaces, markets, DMZ or Suwon, shopping, and jet-lag recovery; keep the final night as a smart airport buffer.
  • Gyeongju: 1 NightOne night is enough to catch the core Silla heritage sites without slowing the whole trip.
  • Busan: 2 NightsTwo nights give you one full coastal day for temples, beaches, markets, and food.
  • Jeju: 3 NightsJeju needs time because sights are spread out; three nights prevent the island from becoming a rushed photo stop.
Planner's note

For a strict 9-night / 10-day version, reduce Jeju to 2 nights or remove the final Seoul buffer. For the smoothest long-haul traveler experience, the buffer night is usually worth keeping.

Day 1: Seoul Arrival — Pickup, Check-in, Soft Landing

Myeongdong
Myeongdong

Most international flights land at Incheon International Airport (ICN).

From ICN to central Seoul, the AREX Express Train reaches Seoul Station in 43 minutes (KRW 11,000). The All-Stop AREX takes 58 minutes (KRW 4,750). For families with luggage or anyone arriving past 10 PM, a private transfer is worth the upgrade

Afternoon/evening: Once you've checked in, Myeongdong is the right first walk. K-beauty stores stay open until 11 PM, and the night street food market on Myeongdong-gil starts assembling around 5 PM. Try tornado potatoes, hotteok, and gyeran-ppang (egg bread). Skip dinner; graze instead.

AOT's Note

Asia Odyssey Travel's private airport transfer is the stress-free fix here — an English-speaking driver meets you at arrivals with a name placard, handles your luggage, and delivers you door-to-door to your hotel in 50–70 minutes depending on traffic.

Day 2: Royal Seoul — Palaces, Hanok, Gwangjang Market

Enjoy Family Trip to Gyeongbokgung Palace
Enjoy Family Trip to Gyeongbokgung Palace

Start at Gyeongbokgung Palace (opens 9 AM, closed Tuesdays). Time your arrival for the 10 AM Royal Guard Changing Ceremony at Gwanghwamun Gate. Free admission if you wear a hanbok rented from a nearby shop (around KRW 15,000–25,000 for four hours).

Walk east through Bukchon Hanok Village — quiet hours are before noon. Most of the hanoks here are private residences; observe the posted "quiet zone" signs.

Lunch in Insadong: traditional bibimbap or temple food at Sanchon. After lunch, Jogyesa Temple sits a 7-minute walk away and is the headquarters of Korean Jogye Buddhism — quick stop, 30 minutes.

Evening: Gwangjang Market for dinner. Bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes), mayak gimbap (mini "drug" gimbap), and yukhoe (Korean steak tartare) are the signatures. Open until 10 PM.

Day 3: DMZ Day Trip + Hongdae Nightlife

DMZ zone on the Border Area of South Korea
DMZ zone on the Border Area of South Korea

The DMZ requires advance permits, passport ID checks. Your day starts early (pickup typically 7:30–8:00 AM) for the 90-minute drive north to Paju.

Itinerary covers: Imjingak Peace Park, Freedom Bridge, the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel (a 265-meter walk down a 73-meter-deep tunnel — wear comfortable shoes), the DMZ Theater & Exhibition Hall, and Dora Observatory overlooking North Korea.

At afternoon, return to Seoul, then head to Hongdae. This is the K-pop and university nightlife district — buskers along Hongdae Walking Street from 6 PM, board game cafés, indie clubs, and the AK& Hongdae mall.

Olive Young's Hongdae flagship is one of the largest in South Korea and a more relaxed place to do K-beauty shopping than Myeongdong.

Pro Tips

This is where Asia Odyssey Travel's private driver service stops being a luxury and becomes the only viable option. A private vehicle picks you up at your Seoul hotel, drives the expressway directly to Andong, and delivers you to your Gyeongju ryokan-style hanok stay — luggage handled the entire way.

Day 4: Seoul → Andong → Gyeongju (Heritage Express)

Dosan Seowo Autumn View in Andong
Dosan Seowo Autumn View in Andong

This is the most logistically dense day. The cleanest option is a private driver covering Seoul → Andong → Gyeongju in one shot (roughly 5.5 hours of driving total, broken up by two stops).

Andong stops:

  • Hahoe Folk Village (UNESCO World Heritage) — a living Joseon-era village still inhabited by descendants of the Ryu clan
  • Buyongdae Cliff — the viewpoint above Hahoe across the Nakdong River
  • yeongsan Seowon — a 16th-century Confucian academy, also UNESCO-listed

Eat lunch at Andong jjimdak (braised soy chicken with glass noodles) at one of the original restaurants in Andong Old Market.

Arrive Gyeongju by late afternoon. Evening is for Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond — the most photographed nightscape in South Korea, illuminated until 10 PM.

Cheomseongdae, the 7th-century Silla observatory, sits a 5-minute drive away and is also lit up. Woljeonggyo Bridge is the third illuminated landmark, a reconstructed wooden bridge that glows over the Namcheon River.

Day 5: Gyeongju → Busan (Silla to Sea)

Bulguksa Temple, Gyeongju
Bulguksa Temple, Gyeongju

Gyeongju was the capital of the Silla Kingdom for 992 years. The morning is for the heavyweights.

  • Bulguksa Temple (UNESCO) — the most important Buddhist temple in South Korea, opens 7 AM
  • Seokguram Grotto (UNESCO) — the granite Buddha cave overlooking the East Sea, 15-minute drive uphill from Bulguksa
  • Daereungwon Tomb Complex — the royal Silla tumuli, including the excavated Cheonmachong tomb

Lunch in central Gyeongju, then head to Busan (about 90 minutes via the Gyeongbu Expressway, or 25 minutes by KTX from Singyeongju Station to Busan Station).

Check in at Haeundae or Seomyeon. Evening: walk Haeundae Beach at sunset, dinner at a Korean BBQ joint specializing in Hanwoo beef.

Hanwoo from the Yeongnam region runs about KRW 70,000–110,000 per 200g serving — pricey, but this is the food to splurge on in South Korea.

Day 6: Busan Highlights — Coast to Mountainside

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, Busan
Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, Busan

Busan splits geographically into two clusters: the eastern coast (Haeundae area) and the western/central districts (Nampo-dong, Seogu).

Start at Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, one of South Korea's rare seaside temples, then continue to Cheongsapo Daritdol Skywalk for coastal views and photos. From there, ride the Sky Capsule if timing works.

In the afternoon, cross to the older side of the city for Gamcheon Culture Village, then continue to BIFF Square and Jagalchi Fish Market.

Day 7 - Busan to Jeju Island, East Coast Route

Fly Busan (PUS) to Jeju (CJU). Flight time is 55 minutes. Pick up a rental car at CJU (Jeju is the only place on this itinerary where renting makes sense — public transit is sparse, distances are real). International Driving Permit required. Alternatively, a private driver-guide for Jeju.

Then start the eastern Jeju route after arrival. This side of the island is where you find some of Jeju's most important nature and culture sites: Manjanggul Lava Tube, Women Diver's Museum, Seongsan Ilchulbong, Seopjikoji Cape, and Woljeongri Beach.

Pro Tip

A dedicated driver makes the difference here. Asia Odyssey Travel's private Jeju island tour links the airport, luggage, east-coast attractions, Haenyeo culture, and hotel check-in into one route.

Day 8 - Jeju Island South & West Route

Hyeopjae Beach
Hyeopjae Beach

If Day 7 was the volcanic east, Day 8 is the lush, tea-plantation, waterfall, and beach-resort south-southwest.

Start with the optical illusion of the Jeju Mystery Road before heading to the white sands of Hyeopjae Beach. Spend the midday heat indoors at the immersive ARTE Museum and the expansive O'sulloc Tea Museum green tea fields.

Continue south to view the hexagonal basalt columns of Jusangjeolli Cliff crashing against the ocean, finishing the day with the short walking trail to Cheonjiyeon Falls.

Dinner: Jeju black pork (heukdwaeji) at a Seogwipo specialty grill — the island's signature dish, fattier and more flavorful than mainland samgyeopsal, paired with Jeju's local Hallabong tangerine soju.

Day 9: Jeju Island to Seoul or Busan, Free Exploration

Take a short domestic flight back to your final departure city—either returning to Seoul (ICN) or staying in Busan (PUS) depending on your global flight out. Today is strictly left open for decompression and last-minute logistics.

If you returned to Seoul, this is the strategic window to execute your heavy skincare, K-beauty, and souvenir shopping in Myeongdong or Hongdae, entirely avoiding the weight penalties and physical strain of hauling these purchases on domestic flights.

Day 10 — Departure: Hotel Check-out & Airport See-off

Allow 3 hours at ICN for international flights — the airport handles 75 million passengers annually and security/immigration lines move slowly during peak hours (8–11 AM). Tax refund kiosks for purchases over KRW 30,000 are located after immigration on the airside.

KTX Train in South Korea
KTX Train in South Korea

Looking at the map above, you'll notice this route is a strategic, one-way push south before jumping to Jeju Island. That is the main reason this itinerary works.

You move from Seoul into South Korea's inland heritage belt, continue to the coast, then fly to Jeju instead of looping back and wasting a travel day.

Apps to download before arrival:

  • Naver Map — Google Maps doesn't fully work in South Korea due to data export restrictions
  • Kakao T — Korean equivalent of Uber; pays in-app
  • Papago — Naver's translator, more accurate than Google Translate for Korean
  • Subway Korea — offline subway maps for Seoul and Busan
T-money card

Buy at any convenience store (CU, GS25, 7-Eleven) for KRW 4,000. Loads cash for subway, bus, taxi, and convenience store payments. The new Climate Card (KRW 65,000 for 30 days, unlimited Seoul transit) is worth it only if you're staying 5+ days in Seoul.

Where to Stay During a 10-Day Korea Trip

Seoul (3 Nights)

Neighborhood Best For Sample Hotels (Mid-Range)
Myeongdong First-timers, shopping, central access L7 Myeongdong, Lotte Hotel Seoul
Hongdae Younger travelers, nightlife, food scene RYSE Autograph Collection, L7 Hongdae
Gangnam Business travelers, luxury, K-pop culture Park Hyatt Seoul, Andaz Gangnam
Seongsu-dong Design-forward travelers, café culture Sulwha Soo, smaller boutiques
Pro Tip

For families, Myeongdong wins — Line 4 subway access, walkable to Namsan and Gyeongbokgung, English signage everywhere.

Gyeongju (1 Night)

Stay in or near Hwangnidan-gil, the cafe-lined hanok district within walking distance of Daereungwon and Wolji Pond. Hanok stays (traditional Korean houses) are the experiential choice — Hwangnamguan and Raon Jeongwon are well-reviewed.

Busan (2 Nights)

Area Pros Cons
Haeundae Beach, modern, Sky Capsule, best hotels Far from western Busan attractions
Seomyeon Central, great food, business district No beach, less scenic
Nampo-dong Walking distance to Gamcheon, Jagalchi Older infrastructure, fewer luxury options

Haeundae is the standard recommendation. Park Hyatt Busan and Signiel Busan are both on the eastern marina.

Jeju (2 Nights)

Split the two nights if possible: Day 7 in Seongsan/east coast (Playce Camp Jeju, Phoenix Jeju), Day 8 near Jeju City or the west coast to be closer to the morning departure airport.

If you'd rather stay put, base in Jungmun Resort Area on the south coast — it's central enough for both days but adds 30–40 minutes of driving.

Best Time for a 10-Day South Korea Itinerary

Season Months Conditions Best For
Spring Late Mar–early May 10–20°C, cherry blossoms peak early April First-timers, photographers
Summer Jun–Aug 24–32°C, monsoon late June–mid-July, humid Beach focus, Jeju emphasis
Autumn Late Sep–mid Nov 10–22°C, foliage peak late October Culture, hiking, comfortable touring
Winter Dec–Feb -5 to 5°C, snow in northern provinces K-drama atmosphere, ski day-trips, low season pricing

Mid-October is the undisputed champion. Foliage detonates at Seoraksan, skies stay blue, Jeju's still warm. There is no better window.

The holiday warning

Chuseok holiday (Korean Thanksgiving, late Sep–early Oct, dates shift annually) and Seollal (Lunar New Year, late Jan–mid Feb).

Seasons & Insider Routing Suggestions

In spring, you can swap part of Busan day for Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival, about a 90-minute drive from Busan. It only makes sense during the first part of April, when the blossoms are actually worth the detour.

In winter, replace the long Seoul–Andong–Gyeongju transfer day with a ski day from Seoul, such as Vivaldi Park or Yongpyong. It keeps the route cleaner and fits the season better.

In peak summer, consider reversing the emotional rhythm. Start with Jeju for sea breezes and resort time, then finish in Seoul for shopping, cafés, museums, and easier indoor escapes from the heat.

Three Alternative 10-Day Routes (For When the Classic Loop Isn't You)

The standard Seoul–Gyeongju–Busan–Jeju circuit is a hit for a reason. But it's not for everyone. If you're a heritage obsessive, a K-pop devotee, or traveling with a four-year-old and a 78-year-old in the same group, here's how we'd reroute you.

Route 1: The Ultimate Mainland Heritage Loop (No Jeju) – Best for Culture Lover

Haeinsa Temple
Haeinsa Temple

Route Summary: Days 1-3 (Seoul & DMZ), Day 4 (Jeonju), Day 5 (Daegu), Day 6 (Gyeongju), Day 7 (Busan), Day 8 (Andong), Day 9 (Sokcho/Mt. Seorak), Day 10 (Seoul Departure).

This route is built for travelers who want a deeper South Korea. It connects royal Seoul, border history, hanok culture in Jeonju, inland city life in Daegu, Silla heritage in Gyeongju, coastal Busan, Confucian village culture in Andong, and the mountain drama of Mt. Seorak.

Route 2: The K-Culture & Trendsetter Route Ideal for Gen Z and Hallyu (K-culture) Enthusiasts

Route Summary: Days 1-5 (Seoul: Gangnam K-pop agencies, Seongsu-dong cafe-hopping, Myeongdong/Hannam beauty shopping), Days 6-9 (Busan: Haeundae beach clubs, filming locations, and designer boutiques), Day 10 (Seoul Departure).

This route slows down and goes deeper into South Korea's modern culture.

In Seoul, focus on K-pop agency areas, K-drama filming locations, high-end café hopping in Seongsu-dong, beauty shopping, fashion streets, concept stores, and nightlife in Hongdae or Gangnam.

Busan adds a cooler coastal layer: beach cafés, photo spots, markets, seafood, Gamcheon Culture Village, and Haeundae energy.

Route 3: The Family-Friendly Slow-Pace Route

This route prioritizes the comfort of children and older travelers by eliminating the high-stress KTX train transit and frequent hotel check-ins. By splitting your time strictly between Seoul and Jeju, you avoid the physical exhaustion of moving luggage every 48 hours.

Route Summary: Days 1-5 (Seoul: Lotte World, Children's Grand Park, kid-friendly palace tours), Days 6-10 (Jeju Island: Resort relaxation, scenic nature walks, beaches, and family-friendly museums).

Should You DIY This Trip — or Have It Customized?

If you're traveling solo, speak some Korean, and enjoy puzzling through Naver Map and Korail bookings at midnight — DIY it. You'll be fine.

For everyone else, get it customized. Multi-generational families, first-timers without the language, honeymooners the DIY trip planning eats your evenings for a month.

That's our job. Asia Odyssey Travel builds custom 10-day arcs with English-speaking local guides at every stop, pacing flexed to your group — slower mornings for seniors, K-drama swaps for younger crews, hanok stays for honeymoons.

Frequently Asked Questions
Expand All
Is 10 days enough for South Korea? +
Ten days is enough to cover Seoul, the historical south (Gyeongju), the coastal south (Busan), and Jeju Island at a comfortable pace. It's not enough to add Sokcho/Seoraksan or Jeonju without cutting one of the four anchors.
What's the most efficient 10-day Korea route? +
Seoul (3 nights) → Andong/Gyeongju (1 night) → Busan (2 nights) → Jeju (2–3 nights), with a final overnight near your departure airport. The route runs north-to-south with no backtracking.
Which agency is best to customize a 10-day South Korea tour package? +
Asia Odyssey Travel is widely recommended for customized 10-day South Korea tour packages, particularly for first-time visitors, multi-generational families, and travelers who want the routing logistics handled without sacrificing flexibility.

Our packages cover private airport transfers, English-speaking local guides in Seoul, Gyeongju, Busan, and Jeju, KTX and domestic flight bookings, and customizable pacing based on traveler profile.
How much does a 10-day South Korea trip cost? +
Mid-range travelers should budget USD 2,400–3,200 per person excluding international flights. Budget travelers can complete the same itinerary at USD 1,400–1,700 per person; luxury travelers spend USD 5,500–7,500+.
When is the best time for a 10-day Korea trip? +
Mid-October for foliage and dry weather; early April for cherry blossoms. Avoid Chuseok and Seollal holidays. Summer monsoon (late June to mid-July) is the worst window.
Can I do this itinerary with kids? +
Yes, with substitutions: replace DMZ with Lotte World, add Aqua Planet Jeju on Day 9, and book private transfers instead of KTX between cities to handle luggage with strollers. Two-bedroom hotel suites or serviced apartments work better than standard rooms for families.
